Cincinnati vs Houston College Football Preview
Cincinnati Bearcats Betting Preview: Running Wild
Since the start of the regular season, Cincinnati has been dominant on offense, ranking in the top 40 in Success Rate, Explosiveness, Finishing Drives, and Havoc Allowed. JC French IV’s running ability has helped create more space in the second level by pulling opposing linebackers to the line of scrimmage, widening his passing lanes on the back end.
While scrambling out of the pocket, the Bearcats quarterback is able to successfully chip away at the distance to gain, averaging 3.5 yards per carry. In the shortened field, French has continued to be aggressive with his legs to cap off Cincinnati’s drives with a score, averaging nearly one rushing touchdown per game.
When opposing linebackers stretch out to the flats to spy French, Cole Tabb has been able to hit the ground running, leaping to the top of the board in Rush Explosiveness and PPA. With Gi’Bran Payne dealing with an injury, the Bearcats will lean more heavily on Tabb while dangerously thin at the position, leading to an uptick in his total number of rush attempts.
While the offense has thrived, Cincinnati’s defense has struggled to play at a competitive level, limping into Week 10 ranked 100th in Def Success Rate and 122nd in Points per Opportunity. Even with the offense capable of lighting up the scoreboard, the lack of production the Bearcats receive from the defense introduces far too much variance into contests to string together wins.
Houston Cougars Betting Preview: Scoring Factory
In his second year with Houston, Conner Weigman is on pace to smash his career highs in passing yards and passing touchdowns while averaging nearly nine yards per throw. With Weigman taking a step forward with his production, the Cougars' offense has been the most efficient unit in the nation, leading the field with a 53.1% Success Rate.
Weigman has also been far more protective with his throws this season, giving up just two interceptions in eight games while cutting down on his total number of Turnover-Worthy Plays. With Weigman taking care of the ball, Houston has been able to keep its drives alive while methodically moving the ball down the field, leading to a high volume of scoring opportunities.
When in scoring position, the Cougars have been able to capitalize on their trips inside the 20, averaging 4.37 Points per Opportunity. Not only has Weigman been able to pick apart the gaps in the shortened field, but Makhi Hughes has also had no issue running up the middle, ranking sixth in Rush Success Rate and 33rd in Rush PPA.
Unfortunately for Houston, the defense has yet to find its footing while hovering outside the top 90 in Success Rate and Finishing Drives. When the Cougars are unable to generate Havoc, the defense struggles to hold its opponents in front of the line to gain, making it difficult to create a Hard Stop early on in the drive.

Cincinnati vs Houston Pick, Betting Analysis
Digging deeper into Houston’s defense, a majority of its struggles can be attributed to the back end, fielding a secondary that underwhelms in coverage, per the Cougars' below-league-average marks in Def Pass EPA Allowed per play and Explosiveness. When forced to anchor more bodies in coverage, the middle of the field opens up, making it easier for opposing running backs to rattle off explosive plays.
With Cincinnati on deck, Houston’s linebackers will be forced to creep up, leaving the Cougars' back end on islands, which will widen French’s passing lanes. If French is able to push Houston’s second level back, wider running lanes will present themselves in the trenches, giving the Bearcats quarterback the option to take off and run to help stay ahead of the sticks.
On the other side of the ball, Weigman will have a great opportunity to air it out while torching a Bearcats secondary that resides near the bottom of the board in Def Pass Explosiveness, getting the Cougars' offense into scoring position quickly on its drives. When in the red zone, points will continue to be put up on the board at a consistent rate, leading to a thrilling high-scoring affair.
Even though the over has taken some action since opening at 60.5, there is still some meat left on the bone at 62.5, with a stop point at 65. If the total does tick back down to the key number of 62, add more to your position.
Pick: Over 62.5 Points (-115, Play to 65)
