Oregon Ducks Betting Preview: Mixed Results Under Raiola

Ever since Oregon starting QB Dante Moore suffered a season-ending concussion in the Ducks’ Week 4 victory over USC, Nebraska transfer Dylan Raiola has been starting under center for Oregon, with mixed results in his first several games at the helm.

In his first three starts, Raiola threw just one touchdown pass while also throwing two interceptions – an abysmal start to his first opportunity to find success under Lanning in Eugene.

Fortunately for the Ducks, the former Cornhusker QB is coming off a stellar outing in the team’s Week 9 victory over Northwestern, in which Raiola threw for 336 yards and three touchdowns without a single turnover.

If Oregon is to have any chance of going into Columbus and stealing an outright victory from the Buckeyes in a hostile environment at ‘Ohio Stadium’, Raiola will need to repeat his Week 9 heroics against a far more challenging defensive matchup on the road.

Lanning’s Ducks will also require fantastic play from their top playmakers, which in this case is Sophomore tailback Jordon Davison, who has rushed for 439 yards and seven touchdowns.

In addition to establishing the run, Raiola will need to ride the “hot hand” of speedster wideout Dakorien Moore.

The Ducks’ Sophomore WR is coming off of a phenomenal performance against Northwestern, corralling seven passes for 128 yards and two touchdowns. Dakorien has electrifying quickness that can take the top off of any secondary given his tremendous athleticism downfield.

Raiola has a tall order ahead of him to take out a Buckeye squad that is 14-2 under Ryan Day when playing at ‘Ohio Stadium’ in November.

Ohio State Buckeyes Betting Preview: A Must-Win if the Buckeyes

After a season-ending shoulder injury to Ohio State QB Julian Sayin slightly derailed its National Championship aspirations, Day elected to start 5'11 "true Freshman Luke Fahey, who steadily improved throughout the Buckeyes’ Week 9 loss to the Trojans.

Despite throwing an interception in both of his previous appearances against Kent State and Ball State, Fahey threw for 260 passing yards and a touchdown without committing a single turnover.

In addition to the Buckeye defense allowing 30 points to Lincoln Riley’s bunch, Ohio State was very inefficient in the red zone, settling for 3 on several occasions despite moving the ball well, finishing with 464 total yards on the night.

While many speculated whether 6'4" sophomore QB Tavien St. Clair would see any reps under center in addition to Fahey, the second-year Buckeye did not handle a single snap in Week 9.

Now, Ryan Day’s Ohio State squad finds itself with a 6-2 overall record, which surely makes Saturday’s matchup against the Ducks an absolute must-win if the Buckeyes are to maintain their postseason CFB Playoff hopes.

Though favored by over a touchdown, I expect Saturday’s Big Ten clash to be a very difficult one, given that Oregon is coming off a quite impressive win of its own, behind a phenomenal effort from Raiola in the team’s eight-point victory over Northwestern.

Fahey will definitely need to rely on his big playmakers, namely superstar wideout Jeremiah Smith, who is in the midst of a Heisman Trophy-esque campaign with the Buckeye Junior having already caught 62 passes (5th) for 1067 receiving yards (2nd), and a whopping 13 touchdowns (2nd)- ranking inside the top five in all three metrics.

Ohio State will also need to establish the run with Sophomore tailback Bo Jackson to keep a very well-coached Oregon defense on Saturday.

Oregon vs Ohio State Pick, Betting Analysis

In what certainly sets up to be one of the best overall matchups in a loaded Week 10 College Football slate, I will be looking to take a more unique handicapping approach, given that the 7.5 number is a tad steep to cover without its starting QB under center.

In this case, I favor targeting Ohio State’s generational receiver talent, Jeremiah Smith, to record at least 80 receiving yards, along with a Buckeye outright victory in Week 10.

You can back my Saturday SGP at -115 odds on DraftKings.

Pick: Ohio State Moneyline and Jeremiah Smith 80+ Receiving Yards (Parlay Odds -115, DraftKings)
