The Brandon Staley era is officially over in Los Angeles.

That is music to the ears of most Chargers fans, who had long been clamoring to fire the former head coach.

Now it is time for the interim coach bump. The scorching hot Buffalo Bills travel to Los Angeles on Saturday night.

The Bills won their last two games over two of the best teams in the NFL in the Kansas City Chiefs and Dallas Cowboys. They go into Los Angeles as 12-point favorites over the reeling Chargers.

But the interim coach bump is real.

Since 2003, 37 teams have fired their coach during the regular season. Those teams have gone 17-20 straight up and 21-16 against the spread in their first game with an interim head coach.

A 56.8% ATS win rate might not look fantastic, but those teams were 94-254-3 (27%) straight up prior to the head coach change. They also compiled a 127-217-6 (36.9%) record against the spread prior to the coaching change.

We will see if interim coach Giff Smith will be able to motivate his Chargers and keep this profitable trend going.
