Patriots vs Giants NFL Preseason Week 3 Preview
The Patriots and Giants enter Thursday night with undefeated preseason records, setting up an unexpectedly enjoyable contest.
When it comes to betting, we are, as always, keeping a close eye on the quarterbacks. Frustratingly, we don't have any definitive confirmation from Mike Vrabel or Brian Daboll regarding how many, if any, starters will be playing in this final preseason game.
The expectation is that we see neither Drake Maye nor Russell Wilson, but that cannot be confirmed, so we tread lightly.
For the Patriots, that means we're likely to see a lot of Joshua Dobbs and Ben Wooldridge, with neither really excelling this preseason.
Through two games, they've both thrown a touchdown pass, but neither has surpassed 200 passing yards. With Dobbs' experience, it seems almost certain that he'll be on the team as Maye's backup. However, a strong performance by the rookie Wooldridge in this game could secure him a roster spot.
On the opposite sideline, we have no shortage of quarterbacks. If Wilson is rested as expected, then we're going to see Jameis Winston, Jaxson Dart and Tommy DeVito get playing time.
Wilson has seen the least time on the field across two preseason games, but, notably, he's the only one not to throw a touchdown pass, although he has been intercepted. That said, the offense looked confident when he was on the field and played with a calmness that hasn't been seen in Big Blue for a long while.
When it comes to being one of the three QBs the team will carry this season, it seems likely that DeVito will be the odd one out, but a stellar performance here might help him find his next landing spot.
Winston sounds likely to get a spot given his experience. At the same time, Dart has looked very impressive, exceeding expectations as he's completed 26-of-35 passes for 291 yards, two touchdowns and zero turnovers.
Patriots vs Giants Prediction, Betting Analysis
Quarterbacks are key, and with Maye and Wilson likely sitting, it's all on the backups.
The Giants hold the advantage here with the experience of Winston and DeVito and the exciting potential of Dart.
