49ers vs Falcons
By Stuckey
I think it is time to sell high on the 49ers. We are sitting at the peak of the market on them, and this is the perfect spot to fade an undefeated team.
San Francisco's schedule has been extremely favorable. Aside from an early Australia game against a jet-lagged Rams squad, the 49ers have feasted at home against broken offenses like the Broncos, Seahawks, and Dolphins.
Their defensive metrics look incredible, but those are bottom-tier offensive units they faced. Even last week, they benefited from the Commanders completely turtling after Terry McLaurin got hurt on the very first drive of the game.
Now, the 49ers are traveling cross country on a short week while dealing with significant cluster injuries. They are going to be without Nick Bosa and Dre Greenlaw, which historically guts their run defense against mobile quarterbacks, and the biggest blow is that Mike Evans is out.
Evans' absence simply cannot be overstated — he averages 0.33 EPA per route run, the highest in the Next Gen Stats era, and serves as Brock Purdy's safety valve over the middle on third downs.
Meanwhile, the Falcons are in a total desperation spot after suffering back-to-back home losses. Atlanta's box score last week against the Bears was skewed by going 0-for-3 on fourth downs and fumbling both a kick return and a punt inside its own 10-yard line. That kind of negative variance rarely repeats itself.
With Michael Penix Jr. under center and Bijan Robinson fully ready to test a depleted San Francisco front seven, Atlanta is dangerous as a home underdog.
Brock Purdy is just 3-6 against the spread (ATS) indoors. Plus, head official Clay Martin historically favors underdogs (favorites are an abysmal 42-61 ATS in his games).
Pick: Falcons +3 (-120)
Buccaneers vs Panthers
By Evan Abrams
With typical bounce-back angles limited, I am leaning into one of my favorite general NFL trends: the "business trip."
Teams playing on the road immediately off a loss are a highly profitable 21-12 against the spread this year alone, and this exact spot has finished .500 ATS or better in 20 of the last 24 seasons. The one team from that group I love this week is Tampa Bay.
Yes, it's a gross pick. There is massive uncertainty at quarterback (Baker Mayfield is back but he hasn't been great this season), an illness traveling through the clubhouse, and injuries to Antoine Winfield and Emeka Egbuka (both are out).
Tampa Bay holds an undeniable advantage in EPA per rush on both offense and defense. Plus, Todd Bowles owns Bryce Young, boasting a dominant 5-1 head-to-head record against the Panthers quarterback.
I will gladly take the 3.5 points with the superior rushing team and a head coach who knows exactly how to neutralize his opponent.
Pick: Buccaneers +3.5 (-120)
Browns vs Titans
By Stuckey
I am genuinely stunned to see so many people rushing to praise a known scumbag quarterback like Deshaun Watson just because he completed a couple of short-of-the-sticks passes against the Buccaneers last week.
If you look under the hood at his actual metrics, Watson has been atrocious. He might have a 7:2 TD:INT ratio, but he has registered just six big-time throws compared to a league-leading 11 turnover-worthy plays.
Turnovers are inevitably coming. His eyes immediately drop at the very first hint of pressure, he's not picking up blitzes, and he currently holds the worst pressure-to-sack ratio in the NFL.
The Browns also haven't had success running the football (though Quinshon Judkins and Dylan Sampson are returning), which forces Watson into obvious passing situations. The Titans quietly rank inside the top 10 in sack rate.
Pick: Titans +2.5 (-112)
Packers vs Lions
I am simply not buying the recent hype surrounding Jordan Love and the Packers, which is why I lean toward the Lions in this NFC North showdown. I made this line closer to -4, so I'm showing solid value on Detroit catching the three points.
While the Packers looked great indiscriminately chucking the deep ball to beat the Cowboys last week, Green Bay's offensive line remains extremely shaky. The Packers cannot run the football whatsoever, and they caught a Bears team in a fat-and-happy spot a couple of weeks ago.
On the other side, I fully acknowledge that Dan Campbell's overall game management has suffered without Ben Johnson pulling the strings.
However, Detroit still possesses very high offensive upside and can generate organic defensive pressure without needing to blitz, which is exactly the formula you use to disrupt this shaky Packers offensive line.
A highly respected sharp group out in Vegas already laid the juice and bet the Lions on the moneyline, and I am aligned with that sentiment.
I will be using Detroit in all of my pick'em leagues to win on the road against a Green Bay team that is still technically a long shot to win the division.
Pick: Lions -3 (-118) / Moneyline (-175)
Cardinals vs Broncos
By Stuckey
I am sprinkling on the Cardinals moneyline because this is a great spot to bet against Bo Nix.
The Broncos (4-2) have one of the most misleading records in football. They are undeniably one of the luckiest teams in the NFL right now, with all four of their victories requiring fourth-quarter comebacks or walk-off field goals while their two losses were blowouts.
The Broncos easily could have lost to a Seahawks team that doubled them up in yardage, they barely survived the Chargers, and they needed miraculous comebacks against both the Rams and the Jags.
Bo Nix has been playing horrendous football, refusing to push the ball down the field or even scramble for first downs.
Denver's defense is dealing with cluster injuries in the secondary, likely taking the field without both Patrick Surtain and Talanoa Hufanga.
On a short week, with a potential look-ahead game against the Chiefs looming in Week 8, this could be a flat spot for a volatile Denver team.
Pick: Cardinals Moneyline (+195)
Rams vs Raiders
By Doug Kezirian
Despite being two games under .500 and cycling through different kickers, the futures market still lists the Rams among the top five or six favorites to win the Super Bowl. I'm not buying it.
Matthew Stafford's MVP form has not carried over to this season thus far, and Sean McVay's game management remains flawed — the Rams lost their game against Buffalo because he botched basic clock and situational strategy.
This Rams roster is completely battered. They are missing Myles Garrett, Kobie Turner, Poona Ford, and Davante Adams, which completely guts their core talent. Puka Nacua is also questionable to play in this game.
Meanwhile, the Raiders have the only unblemished ATS record in the league. Head coach Klint Kubiak has done a great job with Brock Bowers and the Raiders offense — though the running game has been subpar.
I'll back the Raiders to pull off the outright upset against an overvalued and beat-up Rams team.
