Saints vs Giants NFL Week 6 Preview
The Saints originally opened as underdogs for this game, but almost immediately swung to 1.5-point road favorites — and I think they are sitting at the absolute bottom of their market value.
Am I thrilled to back New Orleans on the road here? Not exactly. But I am itching to fade the Giants.
Sure, the Saints' run defense is abysmal, but they are facing a Giants team entirely incapable of exploiting it.
New Orleans has played a grueling schedule the last two weeks, facing the Falcons (who ran wild with Bijan Robinson) and the Vikings (who have one of the best defenses in the NFL).
Offensively, Tyler Shough has been very good when kept clean in the pocket. With the Giants missing Brian Burns, Shough should have all day to operate and consistently move the ball through the air in this game.
The Giants are a couple games above .500, but they are arguably the most fraudulent team in the NFL.
They could easily be 1-4 right now after lucking out with a tie against the Commanders last week. New York's back-to-back home wins came against the Titans and Cardinals — two incompetent teams that turned the ball over at the goal line with a chance to win.
Offensively, the Giants have completely stalled since losing Jaxson Dart. They rank 29th in both rush success rate and rush EPA, meaning their ground game has almost totally vanished.
Jameis Winston has thrown for 694 yards with a 6:3 TD:INT ratio in the three games he's started. He's done a good job of feeding Malik Nabers as the Giants' WR1 has surpassed 100 receiving yards in each of the last two weeks.
Of course, the thing with Winston is that he's prone to making critical mistakes when throwing into zone coverage.
Saints vs Giants Prediction, Betting Analysis
There is a massive strength-of-schedule disparity here, with the Giants feasting on the easiest schedule in the league so far while the Saints have been heavily battle tested against some of the NFL's best.
Without Jaxson Dart's mobility, the Giants simply haven't bee able to run the ball with Cam Skattebo, forcing Jameis Winston into high-variance, mistake-prone dropbacks.
The Saints should be able to keep the pocket clean for Tyler Shough throughout this game, which will likely allow him to dissect the Giants' defense and lift his team to a road win.
Pick: Saints -1.5 (+100)
