After an emotional Week 1 loss in Seattle, the Broncos return to Denver for their home opener against the Texans. After watching the new-look offense with quarterback Russell Wilson, I’m loving the value on Courtland Sutton’s receiving yards this week.
Sutton and Wilson’s chemistry had been the talk of Broncos camp in August, with the receiver being billed as the signal-caller’s “new DK Metcalf.” I was skeptical until I watched Sutton pull down 72 yards against Seattle.
While that might not seem like an eye-opening total, the advanced statistics tell a different story. Sutton was the recipient of 121 of Russell Wilson’s 275 air yards (44%). Both the gross number and percentage put him in the top six of NFL pass catchers for Week 1. And this does not factor in the 31-yard pass interference penalty Sutton drew.
I don’t want to put too much stock on one game, but it’s clear that Sutton is going to serve as the downfield threat for Denver this season. Wilson has graded out as one of the premier deep ball throwers every year, which should translate into plenty of yards coming Sutton’s way.
Last week, we saw Michael Pittman Jr. carve up this Texans defense for 121 yards. Coming off a season in which Houston allowed 169 yards to wide receivers per game (sixth most), I don’t see them slowing down Sutton.
In a great bounce-back spot for the Broncos, I have Sutton coming close to 80 receiving yards.
Pick: Courtland Sutton Over 58.5 Receiving Yards (-115) | Play to Over 61.5
