Edmonton Oilers Preview: Late-Life, But No Lift Off
For the majority of the game, it was all Oilers. The boys in orange and blue were buzzing around the ice, led by Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl.
McDavid was a total nightmare to deal with, as per usual. But Game 2 was a marvel to watch, bobbing and weaving through Florida’s defense.
Corey Perry was also a deterrent for the Panthers, causing havoc in front of Sergei Bobrovsky, including draining the game-tying goal with 17.8 seconds left in the third period to send it into overtime.
Unfortunately for the Oilers, it wasn’t the fairy-tale ending that Edmonton hoped it would be.
One thing to keep track of is that Ryan Nugent-Hopkins was held out of practice on Sunday, and coach Kris Knoblauch later stated that he’ll be a game-time decision.
Potentially losing Nugent-Hopkins is brutal for the Oilers. While he hasn’t registered a point in this series, Nugent-Hopkins’ presence on the power play is immense and has built quite the chemistry with Draisaitl and McDavid.
He’s averaging a point per game in the playoffs and has registered seven points while on the man advantage.
RNH’s status is something that should be heavily monitored prior to puck drop.
Stuart Skinner picked and chose his spots. There were times when he looked great, but he got off to a rocky start, letting Sam Bennett score on him once again. It was a rough goal that he probably would want to have back.
That’s what you’re going to get out of Skinner. But the more we learn about him, the more we realize that he does better with time. Could the two-day break be a blessing? Guess we’ll just have to see.

Florida Panthers Preview: Big Cats, Bigger Stops
In typical Brad Marchand fashion, he quieted a Canadian city.
After causing havoc all over the ice and essentially becoming Florida’s most dominant player, he ended it by lighting the lamp in double overtime.
Florida started dominating toward the end of the game, after it seemed like the Oilers lost a little bit of steam. Then, throughout the overtimes, it was an all-out brawl.
It is a little concerning that Matthew Tkachuk and Sam Reinhart haven’t made much of a mark, though. Reinhart peppered more than enough shots at the net in Game 2, but Tkachuk’s invisibility is certainly a head-scratcher. He’s a player who thrives on chaos and well, this series has been awfully chaotic to say the least.
Bobrovsky, though, was exceptional as usual.
As good as someone who’s backed against a wall from the two-headed monster that Edmonton rolls out daily.
MoneyPuck especially liked him, stopping the majority of the pucks he should be stopping, and had a goals saved above expected (GSAx) of 1.37. For context, Skinner posted a -0.84 GSAx.
It’s never easy to shut down a top offensive unit like the Oilers, especially with the way McDavid’s been buzzing. But if he and the defense can continue to limit the high-danger chances, the Cats will be in great shape.
Oilers vs. Panthers Best Bet
We struck gold in Game 2 when we cashed in on Evander Kane’s goal, and I want to strike while the iron is hot.
One of the players that I really liked was Anton Lundell of the Panthers. On top of being the primary assister on both of Marchand’s goals, he was exceptionally slick and defensively responsible, like he usually is.
Lundell has been a force all playoffs. In the 19 games he’s played, he’s registered 14 points and has a playoff-leading +15 rating.
Looking through NaturalStatTrick, I also saw that Lundell was tied for first in high-danger chances. The other three who led the pack? McDavid, Draisaitl, Marchand. Three key play-drivers who have set the tone all series so far.
Lundell only has one goal in his past seven games, but the one goal that he has was the game winner in Game 5 against the Hurricanes in the Conference Finals.
There’s no doubt that he shows up in big moments, and what better moment is it to score during the Stanley Cup?
I’m loving his odds at +370 on DraftKings, so let’s ride. All eyes on No. 15.
Pick: Anton Lundell Anytime Goal Scorer (+370)
