RB Leipzig will be hosting Young Boys in a match that will likely have no effect on Group G, but it is an opportunity to make money, nonetheless. Both teams will still be looking to pick up all three points to gain some momentum.

Leipzig have already qualified for the knockout stage of the Champions League as they currently sit second in the group on nine points. They are six points behind City and five points in front of Young Boys, so they have solidified themselves as second place in Group G.

Young Boys are currently third in the Group, which would see them off to the Europa League. They are three points in front of Red Star Belgrade, so if Young Boys get a result or Red Star do not beat Manchester City, they will advance to the Europa League.

Let’s see how this match is going to play out and how to bet RB Leipzig vs Young Boys.

RB Leipzig

Leipzig have been playing some solid football as of late. They are coming off two straight wins against Heidenheim and Dortmund and they currently sit fourth in the Bundesliga on 29 points. They can thank the likes of Xavi Simons, Openda and Raum for their league position, as they have been the most vital players to how this side plays.

Against lesser opposition, Marco Rose likes to set his side up in a 4-4-2 formation, with Raum being able to push up higher from left back and Xavi Simons occupying the No. 10 role when attacking. This set up has worked wonders for this pair of Leipzig players, as they have been the most creative duo on this side.

Simons and Raum lead the team in expected assists, key passes and shot-creating actions. This is incredibly impressive when you recognize that Simons is only 20 years of age and is leading a Champions League level side in most creative categories.

They have also been extremely efficient defensively, as they are top four in the major defensive categories in the Bundesliga. There is a clear top four in the league when you look at some advanced metrics, and Leipzig are certainly one of them. The only concern that I have with them in this match is that Young Boys still have something to play for, while Leipzig will use this match more to gain fitness for some players typically not in the starting 11.

Young Boys

Young Boys have not played their best football in this Champions League group stage. However, they were not given the easiest situation with Manchester City and RB Leipzig in their group. Their more realistic goal was most likely to finish third in this group and get the chance to play in the Europa League instead. They will have accomplished that goal if they can get any sort of result here or if Red Star do not beat Manchester City.

Young Boys have a four-point lead in the Swiss Super League this season, and it has been more than deserved. They have picked up 23 out of a possible 27 in their nine home matches this season. Where they have dropped some points has been away from home, where they have only picked up 12 points in eight matches.

This is still a respectable number, but in order to advance out of a tough Champions League group you must win an away game. If they are going to get anything out of this match, Nsame and Elia are going to have to play a big role.

Young Boys typically like to play in a 4-4-2 formation, like RB Leipzig. When they are in possession, they prefer to push their wingers into more of a midfield role which allows their fullbacks to push forward and create pressure on the wings. However, they will likely be playing more of a counter attacking brand of football as Leipzig will be controlling more of the football.

We saw in their first match against Manchester City that they can withstand pressure – and even score on the break – but it is hard to do that against an elite team for a full 90 minutes.

RB Leipzig vs Young Boys

Prediction

Despite the fact that this match does not mean much to RB Leipzig, I anticipate them to still win this one. I do not think they will be playing their strongest lineup, but a weaker Leipzig lineup is still going to have more talent than a full-strength Young Boys lineup.

I do not see much value in the spread so I will be taking Leipzig to win and over 2.5 goals at -140. In their first meeting, Young Boys were the home side and conceded 2.6 xG.

I think because of the fact that they will be looking to get a result in this one they will be left slightly more open than they typically are, which will allow Leipzig to counter quick and create a flurry of chances, even without a full-strength lineup.

Pick:  RB Leipzig ML and Over 2.5 (-140 via DraftKings)
