Sabalenka vs Ostapenko Preview, Prediction
By: Tudor Cosma
Aryna Sabalenka Betting Preview
Sabalenka is the most dominant and consistent force on the WTA Tour. However, she's currently going through the most difficult moment of her last two years, as she may lose her No. 1 ranking to Elena Rybakina.
I don't mean to sound the alarm bells, but something very worrying is happening to Sabalenka. Obviously, we have no way of knowing what's on her mind or in her personal life, so we can't make assumptions.
However, the failure at Roland Garros against Diana Shnaider was an extremely painful one for her. After the match, she said that she didn't know if she still had the strength to continue playing tennis.
She was bageled (6-0) in the last set in that match. The exact same thing happened on grass in Berlin, when in the semifinal against Pegula, she was defeated 6-0 in the decider.
Sabalenka remains an extremely strong athlete mentally, and is probably the strongest on tour. However, I think the fact that she has a "zero failure" outlook can cause long-term problems, and doubts may reappear when she meets a strong opponent.
However, if she finds her game, she's an obvious favorite to win the trophy at Wimbledon. She not only has one of the best serves in the world, but she's also very strong from the baseline. She's aggressive and quickly takes control of points.
She generally wins matches very quickly, giving herself a lot of self-confidence.
This season, she lost in the final of the Australian Open to Rybakina. Trophies followed in Indian Wells and Miami, so everything seemed normal.
Unfortunately for her, she hasn't won a single trophy since then.
She seems to have regained her composure and is playing well at the All England Club. She passed Teodora Kostovic and Mccartney Kessler without dropping a set, but now the competition will stiffen.
Jelena Ostapenko Betting Preview
Ostapenko is a 29-year-old Latvian who's ranked 31st on the WTA Tour.
While she hasn't quite lived up to her title at the 2017 French Open, she isn't irrelevant despite being in the second half of her career.
Ostapenko is inconsistent and rarely impresses, though.
After she won Roland Garros, experts believed that she would become a dominant force in the WTA due to her very aggressive game and powerful shots. It was said that she would dominate on grass and hard courts and that she could win many major tournaments.
However, in the decade that followed, she's only captured smaller tournament titles, never reaching another Grand Slam final, even in London.
Ostapenko hasn't changed much in recent years. Her game remains aggressive, but she sprinkles in many mistakes. Her serve remains strong, but on the return, she's slow.
This season started very poorly for her, but then she appeared in the semifinals in Doha and the quarterfinals in Rome.
On grass, she played last week in Eastbourne, where she was quite solid, reaching the semifinals before retiring. Fortunately, her injury wasn't serious.
At Wimbledon, she's beaten Harriet Dart and Antonia Ruzic, losing a single set along the way.
On Friday, I don't think she'll have much of a shot against the No. 1 player in tennis.
Sabalenka vs Ostapenko Predictions, Betting Analysis
Sabalenka is very motivated here to forget the last few months. In the first two matches of this tournament, she seemed very solid to me, especially on serve, where she didn't allow more than one break per match.
Ostapenko is slow on the return and has been too inconsistent to be a major factor at Grand Slams.
I expect Sabalenka to cruise and get mentally right.
Pick: Aryna Sabalenka to Win 2-0 (-130, DraftKings)
