Gauff vs Kostyuk Cincinnati Betting Preview

By: Tudor Cosma

Coco Gauff Preview

Gauff, a 22-year-old American who's ranked fourth in the WTA, has been one of the top players on the tour over the last few years.

She has four consecutive seasons in the top 10, which is already a great achievement given she's still at the start of her career.

At 15, Gauff was already playing important matches on the biggest of stages. Thus, she's always had a lot of pressure on her, as many considered her the new Serena Williams and the next generation of United States tennis.

She obviously hasn't reached Williams-like levels, but we can't say that she's disappointed for American tennis. After all, she has two Grand Slam trophies (US Open and Roland Garros) and has performed excellently overall.

It's true that she can be inconsistent, but Gauff has many assets in her game that make her one of the best players in the world.

She has a solid serve, which she's currently trying to improve on with the help of a biomechanics specialist. On the return, she's one of the best on tour. There's room for her forehand to progress, but her backhand is very effective.

The most important thing is that she's strong regardless of surface. She seems to play best on clay, but on hard courts (which is what this tournament takes place on), she's also very effective.

From a mental perspective, Gauff is at the top of tennis and is mature for her age, which is something that probably has to do with the fact that she debuted at a very young age.

The 2026 season hasn't brought Gauff any trophies so far. However, she has noteworthy finals appearances, including Miami (lost to Aryna Sabalenka) and Rome (lost to Elina Svitolina). She reached the semis at Wimbledon and in Toronto last week.

She's raised her game even more here in Cincinnati.

Marta Kostyuk Preview

Kostyuk, a 24-year-old Ukrainian who's ranked 11th in the WTA rankings, is in the best position of her career, one that she can improve on if she wins this tournament.

It's unlikely that this will happen, but regardless, she'll soon enter the top 10, where she belongs.

She's one of the most talented athletes on the circuit, as she's impressive in all aspects and is extremely strong, fast and agile. She has one of the best serves in the world, but she's also very effective on the return.

Kostyuk's biggest weakness has been unforced errors, but she's cleaned up the mistakes of late, making her very difficult to beat.

She also has seemed much stronger mentally than in the past.

The 2026 season has been a solid one overall for Kostyuk, as she has semifinals at the French Opoen and Wimbledon — plus trophies in Rouen and Madrid. On clay, she's lost only one match all year.

Last week, she played well in Toronto, where she reached the fourth round, losing to Iga Swiatek, the future champion.

Kostyuk struggled against Sofia Kenin and Sloane Stephens here in Cincinnati. However, against Andreeva, she played brilliant tennis after the first set, serving to perfection.

Gauff vs Kostyuk Predictions, Betting Analysis

Gauff is the slight favorite here. While she hasn't necessarily been unbeatable in this event, she's a great fighter who doesn't give up easily.

Against Bouzkova, she saved every break point offered, and we know she's excellent on return.

She's also been helped by the home crowd in the United States, which will also serve as a positive in this quarterfinal duel.

Kostyuk is also one of the best players on tour, coming in with the aforementioned semifinal appearances at Roland Garros and Wimbledon this season.

She was hesitant in the first set against Andreeva here in Cincinnati, but ultimately, she turned the corner, bageling her in set two and looking superb on serve.

I expect her to take a set in this match against Gauff, so I'll take "yes" to the "Both Players to Win a Set" prop on FanDuel (+120).

Pick: Yes — Both Players to Win a Set (+120, FanDuel)
