Cobolli vs Fils Cincinnati Betting Preview
By: Tudor Cosma
Flavio Cobolli Preview
Cobolli, a 24-year-old Italian who's ranked 10th in the ATP rankings, is having an excellent season, one that has gone far beyond the most optimistic expectations.
Obviously, Cobolli isn't at the level of Carlos Alcaraz or Jannik Sinner, but entering the top 10 is a great achievement for the Italian.
He has a solid game with a strong serve and a decisive forehand. He can occasional get broken fairly easily, but there's clear progress in his game in 2026.
The results of 2026 speak for themselves, as he reached the final at Roland Garros. Yes, it's true that all the big favorites lost in the first three rounds of that Grand Slam, and Cobolli didn't play in the semifinals because Matteo Arnaldi withdrew. However, the result remains enormous.
At Wimbledon, he reached the quarterfinals, where he surprisingly was crushed by Arthur Fery, including 6-0 in the last set.
He was highly criticized for his lax attitude on the court, but overall, it was still a strong result.
On the hard courts of Montreal, he didn't even get past the first match, losing to Yannick Hanfmann in straight sets.
In Cincinnati, he's been improved, but he still seems vulnerable despite the win over Paul. He lost a set in every match and hasn't served up to expectations.
Arthur Fils Preview
Fils, a 22-year-old Frenchman who's ranked 21st in the ATP, is an excellent player who I expect to become a great champion. I think he'll stabilize in the top 10 as soon as possible, and I think he'll win a Grand Slam at some point.
His talent is obvious, and he impresses on all levels, including physically. He's very strong and has a lot of self confidence.
A back injury — and other some problems — has ultimately held him back from the top 10, but he has an excellent serve, is very solid from the baseline and controls points with ease. He has controlled aggression, as he doesn't commit too many unforced errors.
His versatility — regardless of surface — is the biggest plus in his game.
Fils missed the last four months of last season, including the US Open. He then missed the Australian Open to start this year before starting his season in February.
His form has improved rapidly, though. He reached the final in Doha, the semifinals in Miami and won a trophy in Barcelona.
Last week, in Montreal, he reached the quarterfinals, where he lost to young rising star Rafael Jodar.
Meanwhile, he's playing excellent in Cincinnati. He's lost only one set all tournament, but even in that match (against Jiri Lehecka), he seemed to be in total control.
On Thursday, against Tirante, Fils didn't allow a single break point opportunity.
We can expect him to show his strengths on Saturday.
Cobolli vs Fils Predictions, Betting Analysis
After three consecutive losses, Cobolli came into Cincinnati in poor form. Although the victories against Jodar and Paul are impressive on paper, it doesn't seem to me that he's raised his game all that much over the last week or so.
He's lost a set in every match in this 1000-event and his serve hasn't been great.
On the flip side, Fils has been impressive, serving close to perfection (only two breaks given up all tournament). He's been excellent from the baseline and on return, dominating strong opponents like Lehecka and Alex de Minaur.
He shouldn't have much trouble today, so back Fils to cover the 3.5-game spread.
