The 2022-2023 PGA TOUR season continues this Thursday with the third tournament of the season as the Shriners Children's Open returns to TPC Summerlin in Las Vegas, Nevada.
2021 Shriners Children's Open winner Sungjae Im will look to defend his title from last season after playing on the International team in the Presidents Cup two weeks ago.
Both Patrick Cantlay and Max Homa from the United States Presidents Cup team are also among the favorites in the field this week. Homa successfully defended his win at the 2021 Fortinet Championship with a win three weeks ago in Napa to start the new PGA TOUR season with a dramatic come-from-behind 72nd-hole victory.
Course Preview
TPC Summerlin measures 7,255 yards as a par 71.
This week, players should expect to be greeted by bentgrass greens at TPC Summerlin, where the TOUR has stopped regularly since 1992. The course was designed by Bobby Weed with Fuzzy Zoeller serving as Player Consultant. TPC Summerlin features abundance of honey mesquite and pine trees that line the fairways and will put an added emphasis on hitting fairways this week.
Past Winners
The winner of this tournament will need to go low as the winner has shot at least 21-under par in each of the last four tournaments here. Last year, Im shot 24-under to win by four strokes over Matthew Wolff.
Im won in his second start of the 2021 season, and this victory kick started his best year on TOUR yet. He would go on to make the TOUR Championship at East Lake and finish in a tie for second to conclude the FedEx Cup Playoffs.
In addition to Im, other past champions at the Shriners in the field this week include Martin Laird (2021 winner), Cantlay (2018), Ben Martin (2015), and Ryan Moore (2012).
