2023 RSM Classic Picks & Odds: Outright Bets for Eric Cole, J.T. Poston & Brendon Todd

Here's everything you need to know about the 2023 RSM Classic — our expert PGA Tour predictions and betting picks.

The 2023 RSM Classic is the final PGA Tour event of the year. While I am looking forward to the break, I am excited to have ShotTracker back in our lives this week at Sea Island Golf Club.

This event draws a pretty strong field and has a different setup than most. The RSM Classic features a course rotation, as golfers will play one round on the Seaside Course and one round on the Plantation Course before the cut. The Seaside Course will then host the final two rounds, which means golfers will play that course three times if they make the cut.

We should focus most of our attention on the Seaside Course, but let's quickly take a glance at the Plantation Course. It is a par-72 that measures 7,060 yards, features four par-5s and is more tree-lined than the Seaside Course, which makes it a little more protected from the elements.

If you are betting the first-round leader or playing showdown in DFS, we can expect the Plantation Course to play a little easier on average.

The Seaside Course is a par-70 that measures 7,005 yards. It only features two par-5s and has water in play on 13 of the 18 holes. While hazards are everywhere, the course features wide fairways and large greens. Ultimately, both of these courses are relatively easy compared to most on the PGA Tour as the winning score has ranged from -19 to -22 over the last five years.

If you look at the past winners and golfers who have performed the best here over the years, you will see a lot more plodders than bombers. Driving distance is not a prerequisite for success at this event, especially on the Seaside Course. I'm looking for strong total drivers of the ball, good iron players, and golfers who putt well on Bermudagrass greens.

2023 RSM Classic Picks

Eric Cole +3000 (DraftKings)

Eric Cole might have the best combination of course fit and recent form of anyone in the field. In his last four starts, he has rattled off finishes of second, third and fourth. There's only one place missing there, and perhaps he can pick up his first PGA Tour win this week.

He's fourth or better in this field in Strokes Gained: Approach, Bogey Avoidance and Birdie or Better Rate. He hasn't seen many courses on the PGA Tour a second time, but he played here last year and finished T39. He's clearly a different caliber of golfer at this stage of his career and should be more comfortable the next time he finds himself in contention.

J.T. Poston +3300 (FanDuel)

J.T. Poston is another golfer who has shown great form over the last few months. In his last eight starts, he has finished outside of the top 25 only once and has five top-seven finishes during that stretch.

He's always had a strong short game, but the difference recently has been the iron play – he has gained at least 4.9 strokes on approach in four of his last five starts — those are elite approach numbers.

He's a Sea Island resident, and while he doesn't have the best course history here, he does have two top 25s in the last four years. It's a home game, he knows the course as well as anyone, and he should have a ton of confidence at the moment.

Alex Noren +4000 (Caesars)

Alex Noren wasn't able to close the door last Sunday, but perhaps he can pull a Camilo Villegas this week. Villegas finished second in Mexico and then came back the next week and won in Bermuda. Noren is looking to do the same after finishing second last week in Bermuda.

We know Noren is a streaky golfer, and after a rough start to the season, he has really found something over the last couple of months. He has two top-three finishes in his last three starts and has two top-20 finishes at this event in his career.

I'll ride the hot form at these odds, and I'm adding a top 10 as well at +400 on bet365.

Brendon Todd +4000 (ESPN Bet)

Finally, we arrive at Mr. Todd, who has been a regular on my betting cards recently. He has always been one of the most accurate drivers of the ball and one of the best putters on the PGA Tour.

But over the last six months, he has found something with his approach play. He tends to play his best on shorter courses and tends to contend most often on courses that feature Bermudagrass. He's a member of the Sea Island mafia, so this is a home game for him.
