Diamondbacks vs Reds MLB Betting Preview
Left-hander Eduardo Rodriguez will take the mound for Arizona, while the Reds will trot out Nick Lodolo in what sets up to be a lefty pitching duel on Friday night.
While Friday’s pitching matchup could have been considered relatively close in the past, that is far from the case heading into this National League clash.

Rodriguez is having a phenomenal third season in Arizona, having recorded a 2.52 ERA across his first 13 outings in 2026. He has been equally as efficient, too, currently posting a 1.18 WHIP on the bump.
While the Diamondbacks’ lefty is trending upwards, having recorded seven quality starts already, Lodolo is heading in the complete opposite direction as his Friday counterpart.
Despite Lodolo coming off a stellar 2025 campaign where he concluded the season with a 3.33 ERA and 1.08 WHIP, he's been unable to revert to last year’s form largely due to sizable injury concerns in the offseason.
While Lodolo was just reactivated from the IL just a couple of weeks ago, he has dealt with a nagging blister on his left index finger, which appears to have significantly impacted his form on the mound.
Lodolo has made six starts across nearly 34 frames since returning to Cincinnati's rotation, having recorded an atrocious 5.51 ERA over that span.
While renowned for his 6-foot-6 frame, with a pretty versatile pitching arsenal, Lodolo has run into sizable concerns with his command on the mound and has recorded a career-high walk rate since returning to play.
In addition to his inefficiency on the mound, he's been susceptible to heavy damage, having already allowed eight homers across his first six outings in 2026.
Also, while Lodolo’s punch-out prowess made him a highly-touted prospect, Cincinnati’s youngster has fanned just 25 batters across his nearly 33 innings pitched thus far.
Given his significant drop in strikeout rate since returning from the IL, he has struggled to retire hitters in his normal fashion.
Ketel Marte Over 2.5 HRR
That said, Diamondbacks’ slugger Ketel Marte is currently in scorching form at the plate and I expect him to be an extremely tough out for Lodolo, considering how poorly he has been since returning to the rotation.
While Marte has previously faced Lodolo just three times, he blasted a two-run shot off of the Reds’ left-hander in one of those plate appearances.
Marte boasts tremendous power on both sides of the plate, which makes him a tough out for any pitcher, nonetheless one who is pitching as poorly as Lodolo.
Though Marte began his 2026 campaign in somewhat of a slump, he re-emerged as one of baseball’s premier sluggers, absolutely dominating throughout May.
While he has started to skid over his last several games, Friday is the perfect opportunity for Marte to bounce back against a lefty he has already dominated in their previous encounters.
Given Lodolo’s current struggles on the mound and his lack of any form of control commanding his pitching arsenal, I favor backing Marte to have a monster game at the plate on Friday to kick off a three-game road trip for the Snakes.
