Athletics Betting Analysis

Jeffrey Springs has nearly doubled his workload this season compared to the previous two combined. However, with increased opportunity has come decreased results.

Through 16 appearances, Springs has a 4.24 ERA. His underlying metrics suggest those struggles may continue, as he ranks in the bottom half of the league in expected ERA (xERA), expected batting average (xBA), strikeout rate and walk rate.

Following Springs is a fade-worthy bullpen. This season, the Athletics’ relief corps ranks in the bottom four in ERA, fielding independent pitching (FIP), expected FIP (xFIP) and wins above replacement (WAR).

Unfortunately for this weak pitching staff, run support is also unlikely. Entering this matchup, the A’s rank in the bottom half of the league in runs scored per game.

Detroit Tigers Betting Analysis

An interesting storyline is developing for Detroit as left-hander Dietrich Enns makes his return to Major League Baseball. It will be his first appearance in the league since 2021.

Since then, Enns has spent one season as a reliever, a few years in the minors and a few overseas. This year, he has served as a starting pitcher for the Toledo Mud Hens in Triple-A.

Enns has been spectacular there, posting a 2.89 ERA through 14 starts. While he’ll certainly be on a short leash in this outing, the Tigers’ bullpen is well-equipped to provide support.

This season, Detroit’s relief corps ranks in the top half of the league in ERA and xFIP. Not only do the Tigers hold the pitching advantage, but they also boast the hitting edge.

Athletics vs Tigers Prediction, Betting Analysis

Detroit’s lineup has been fantastic this season, ranking in the top five in runs scored per game, slugging percentage and OPS. They outrank the Athletics in each of those three categories.

Furthermore, the Tigers have thrived at Comerica Park. They are 27-12 at home this year, while the Athletics are 17-22 on the road.

Pick: Tigers moneyline (-158 | Play to -170)

Moneyline

As mentioned, I'm betting on the Tigers moneyline.

Run Line (Spread)

I also like Detroit to cover, but find more value in just taking the outright moneyline price.

Over/Under

I lean toward the Under, but I don't trust Springs.
