Athletics Betting Preview: Aim to Continue Hot Hitting vs. Kikuchi

The Athletics were on a notable cold streak in the month of May, but they showed some life this past weekend, taking a series from the Baltimore Orioles.

On Monday, they'll aim to keep rolling, and they have an opportunity to stay hot at the plate.

The A's have been one of the best lineups in baseball against left-handed pitching, as they rank eighth in wRC+ and second in BABIP. We should see them produce against Angels starter Yusei Kikuchi, who's due for sizable regression.

Kikuchi enters this start with a 3.23 ERA, but he's been an escape artist, as his WHIP is 1.59 and he's allowed a ton of hard contact.

Kikuchi's xERA of 4.86 is bound to catch up to him, and Monday will be the start of it from the production of the Athletics' lineup.

Behind Kikuchi, the Angels' bullpen hasn't been great, as it's last in FIP and has the worst home-run-to-fly-ball ratio allowed in the majors.

There won't be much stopping the A's bats on Monday.

Los Angeles Angels Betting Preview: Looking to Overcome Lefty Struggles

As for the Angels, they come into this matchup off a series victory over the Seattle Mariners. However, that series ended on a sour note as George Kirby dominated their lineup in a loss on Sunday.

For Monday's matchup, the Angels will also get their shot at a lefty in Athletics starter Jeffrey Springs. Springs has been alright at the backend of the A's rotation, as he's had great success at generating soft contact.

Weak contact is the key to his success against an Angels lineup that's really struggled with lefties thus far. The Angels are 27th in wRC+ and have the highest team strikeout rate against left-handed pitching.

Behind Springs, the A's bullpen is in much better shape than their season-long numbers show for this matchup. While they have the third-worst FIP overall, many of their high-leverage arms will be available on Monday to hold any late-inning lead.

Athletics vs Angels Prediction, Betting Analysis

The A's have been a tough team to back lately, but a closer look shows they're the much stronger offensive club in a matchup in which they should excel.

Back the Athletics to pull off the upset, as their young core should propel them to a series-opening win.

Pick: Athletics ML +140 (Play to +125)
