A's vs Tigers Pick, MLB Betting Preview
My handicap on this game has little to do with Tigers starting pitcher and AL Cy Young favorite Tarik Skubal. He’s the pitcher you don’t have to worry about in a matchup like this.
Instead, I’m targeting A’s starting pitcher, Luis Severino.
While I typically don’t put much stock into home/road splits for pitchers, I feel that Severino’s splits are essential this year, given how Sutter Health Park in Sacramento has affected Athletics’ pitchers.
Severino is not a great fit for his Triple-A ballpark, posting a 6.79 ERA across 10 home starts. However, he’s allowed just four total earned runs in six starts on the road this year. Opponents have posted a .827 OPS against Severino in Sacramento and a .480 OPS in any other park.
There’s likely some small-sample-size noise in those numbers, but ultimately, Severino is a much better pitcher on the road than at home.
Meanwhile, the Tigers’ bats have cooled off. They’ve lost five of their past eight games, struggling to hit the ball against Tampa over the weekend. So, Severino is catching them at the right time.
Meanwhile, Skubal should shut down the A’s lineup.
I love the F5 under 4 (-125) at BetMGM, but I’d bet the Under 3.5s available across the market as well.
Pick: F5 Under 4 (-125)
