Atlanta Braves Betting Preview: Bats Aim for Another Breakout

While this season has been a massive letdown for the Braves, they have an opportunity to play spoiler down the stretch. By taking Game 1 of this series, they helped shrink the Tigers' lead in the AL Central to just 2.5 games.

This afternoon, they should get the bats going again as they face Keider Montero. Montero has had a rough year as the Tigers' swingman, entering this start with a 4.32 xERA and 4.87 FIP.

The Braves have not been great against righties lately, as they rank 29th in BABIP and 26th in OPS over the last month. However, their 10-run outburst tells a different story as they crushed Charlie Morton, a veteran righty.

Despite the outburst, Detroit's bullpen is relatively fresh, so expect Montero's hook to be quick, as this game is crucial for Detroit.

Detroit Tigers Betting Preview: Offense Dominating Lefties

Speaking of quick hooks, that has been the trend of Braves starting pitcher Joey Wentz. Wentz has recorded 12 outs or fewer in four of his last five starts.

The former Detroit Tiger has been a warm body at the backend of the Braves' rotation since being acquired at the trade deadline, as he holds a 5.56 ERA and 1.52 WHIP across all 37 appearances this season.

His trend of short outings is likely to continue as the Tigers' lead may be slipping in the standings, but it's not for their lack of offense, especially against lefties. Over the last month, Detroit has led the majors in wRC+, OPS, and average against southpaws.

This is a great bounce-back spot for the Tigers, and they should make that apparent early.

Braves vs Tigers Prediction, Betting Analysis

This is a matchup where the questionable starters on the mound have created value in multiple markets. However, the perception that the Tigers are struggling is not as bad as their recent record shows.

Their lineup has been rolling, and they are due for an offensive outburst of their own. I'm counting on it coming this afternoon at the expense of Joey Wentz, who has not proven he can get through a lineup a third time.

Fade him directly in this one.

Pick: Joey Wentz Under 14.5 Outs (+125, bet365)

Moneyline

I lean towards the Tigers.

Run Line (Spread)

No play on the run line.

Over/Under

I would lean towards the over.
