Braves vs Mets MLB Betting Preview

Atlanta Braves Betting Preview

The Braves send their ace to the bump for this one after seeing Martin Perez and the bullpen get roughed up in game one. The 37-year-old veteran sports a 2.19 ERA with a 1.05 WHIP on a 29.7% K%. He is pretty much as good as he's ever been. It's mainly four-seamers and sliders, but it works brilliantly. He is coming off a start where he racked up 23 whiffs and 11 strikeouts against the Padres. The Mets are now missing Juan SotoFrancisco Lindor and his teammates picked up the slack last night, but we wouldn't expect many big run explosions from the Mets lineup the rest of the season.

So the Braves find themselves in a very good spot to even the series. The Mets send the young Christian Scott to oppose Sale. We'll get into what we like about Scott, but on the Braves side of the betting card, we should know that Scott has trouble with left-handed hitters. He doesn't throw a changeup, and none of his other pitches work to effectively neutralize lefties.

Drake Baldwin, Michael Harris, and Matt Olson are in good matchups for this one.

New York Mets Betting Preview

I like what I'm seeing from Christian Scott. He has a 29% K% with a seven-pitch mix, and he's gotten whiffs on a bunch of different pitch types. His issue is walks and problems with left-handed batters. Lefties have hit six homers off of him this year (seven total). The splits aren't as dramatic as you might think other than homers, but with this pitch mix going on (no changeup, curveball usage at 2%), he's definitely going to be a guy that lefties do well against, unless he can make some tweaks.

Scott's been particularly good over his last six starts with a 32% K% and a 9.6% BB%. That's a 23% K-BB%. It's very, very hard to have bad results with a 23% K-BB%. The four-seamer is really cooking, and he has a cutter to pair with it so hitters don't know which fastball is coming.

Braves vs Mets Pick, Betting Analysis

I like what we've seen from Scott lately, at least enough to bet the strikeout total. He might give up a couple of very hard-hit balls to lefties, but he should be able to find plenty of strikeouts through this Braves lineup along the way. I have two picks for this game.

Pick: Matt Olson 2+ H+R+RBI (-123)

Olson profiles very well against Scott and his pitch mix.

Pick: Christian Scott Over 5.5 Strikeouts (+110)
