Braves vs Yankees MLB Betting Preview

Atlanta Braves Betting Preview

It's the debut of Tyler Mahle for the Braves. He came over from the Giants to help the Braves out with some rotation depth, and he ended up being the headliner of a pretty weak deadline for the Braves.

The problem we have with Mahle is that he's pitched to a 7.72 ERA outside of AT&T Park (where the Giants play). There's been some bad luck on the road, as there will be with pretty much any ERA over seven, but the predictive numbers are bad, too. He has a 14% K-BB% and a 1.7 HR/9 surrendered this year when not pitching in that very friendly park in San Fran.

So this move for the Braves to get him didn't make much sense, and he does not set up well here pitching in Yankee Stadium.

New York Yankees Betting Preview

For the Yankees, it's Max Fried making his fourth start off the IL. He's posted a 2.70 ERA with a 0.90 WHIP on a 36% K% since getting back. So everything is working for Fried and he looks to be the Yankees' best pitcher in a very good pitching staff right now.

Fried worked up to 5.1 innings last time on 78 pitches. He should push toward 90 for this one, and the efficiency has been elite for him so far. He's given up one homer all year, which neutralizes one of the Braves' biggest weapons.

It's a pretty solid matchup for Fried as the Braves have just a .719 OPS against lefties this year (.746 against righties).

Braves vs Yankees Pick, Betting Analysis

The Braves win the bullpen battle in this one, but it's pretty close. Both clubs have solid relievers ready to go tonight. The starting pitching advantage leans heavily in favor of the Yankees, and they get the slight edge for being the home team as well.

My projections have the Yankees with about a 54% chance to win, which might actually push toward being the Braves being a value at +137. I just don't see where the runs are going to come from against Fried.

The veteran lefty has allowed one homer all year and has not allowed a single barrel since returning from the IL, and very few fly balls overall. I like him to get deep into this game as the pitch count restrictions should be taken off.

I also like the Yankees righty bats in this one, which is the opposite of what you'd think. Mahle's best pitch is the splitter, but he doesn't use it very often against righties

Pick: Max Fried Over 17.5 Outs (-101) & Heliot Ramos Over 1.5 H+R+RBI (-114)
