Colombia Betting Preview
Even relative to the lineups featured throughout a soft Group "A", Colombia's upside at the plate looks quite modest.
Michael Arroyo is the lone batter who may currently be capable of offering league-average results at the MLB level. It'll hope fringe MLB talents such as Harold Ramirez, Gio Urshela, and Donovan Solano can turn back the clock with surprisingly effective showings. The position group will likely feature six batters from the Colombian Professional Baseball League.
Columbia had a rough start to the tournament on Friday, falling 5-0 to Puerto Rico. Columbia faced formidable pitching relative to the average level in Group A, including strong showings from Seth Lugo and Edwin Diaz. Still, the performance did not quell any concerns regarding Columbia's offensive upside, as it managed six hits and struck out nine times across 36 plate appearances.
Though Columbia was a heavy underdog in Friday's matchup, it still hurts for the team to lose a game started by Jose Quintana. Though Quintana is no longer an overly imposing starter at the MLB level, he is still arguably the best starter on the roster.
Julio Teheran is expected to get the start on Saturday. Teheran worked to a 6.95 ERA across 57 innings with Toros de Tijuana of the Mexican League in 2025, striking out six batters per nine innings pitched. He threw six scoreless innings in a WBC qualifier game last March versus Brazil, a side that is considered to be among the worst in the tournament.
Canada Betting Preview
Canada has never advanced past the group stage in its first five appearances in this tournament, but it has a great opportunity to break the slump this year.
Due to the low quality of Group A, simply by having a lineup compiled mainly of big-league talents, Canada has the most formidable unit on paper of any team in the group.
While Freddie Freeman's decision not to participate in this tournament hurts, the lineup still features a solid core of MLB batters, including Josh Naylor, Bo Naylor, and Tyler O'Neill, giving Canada legitimate power in the heart of the order.
Josh Naylor, in particular, profiles as one of the most dangerous bats in Pool A after slugging .462 across 604 at-bats last season. And though, as handicappers, we are taught not to overrate intangibles, the Naylor brothers are "gamers" and bring a fiery competitive nature into a Canadian side that feels to have a different vibe than usual in this year's tournament.
Mike Soroka is expected to get the start for Canada. Soroka was solid at the MLB level last year, pitching to a 3.53 xERA and 4.21 xFIP across 89 and 2/3 innings of work. He held a strikeout-minus-walk rate of 17.4% and is projected to hold an ERA just north of four this season.
How To Bet My Colombia vs Canada Pick
This could prove to be a fairly volatile tournament, and surely some non-MLB players will have surprisingly strong showings.
Still, it does seem surprising that Columbia is not a considerably heavier underdog.
Canada's lineup offers significantly more proven big-league talent and should fare well against an unconvincing starter in Tehran.
While Canada's bullpen could be a bit of a concern, Soroka appears to be a far superior starter than a 35-year-old version of Teheran.
At -155 or better, Canada looks to provide value Saturday. I'll also look to back it on the run line.
