Tigers vs Astros Preview, Betting Insights
Right-hander Jackson Jobe takes the mound for the Tigers in this matchup and, at plus money, he is worth taking a shot on. The third overall pick of the 2021 MLB Draft, Jobe is one of the top prospects in baseball.
MLB Pipeline ranks him as Detroit’s No. 1 prospect and the league’s No. 4 overall prospect. In his first season in the rotation, Jobe has pitched as advertised.
Through four starts, the right-hander is 2-0 with a 2.70 ERA and 1.20 WHIP. He also ranks in the top half of the league in both barrel rate and hard-hit rate.
Following Jobe is one of the best bullpens in baseball. This season, the Tigers’ relief staff ranks third in ERA.
Detroit can stay in this game with its pitching. This year, the Astros have struggled at the plate.
While they are starting to turn it around, the Astros still rank in the bottom 10 of the league in runs per game, hits per game, batting average, on-base percentage, slugging percentage, OPS and home runs. These woes could continue Wednesday, given that the majority of this lineup has never faced Jobe.
It will likely take a few trips through the batting order to attempt to figure the top prospect out, which would buy the Tigers time to get a lead.
If Detroit enters the late innings with a lead, the bullpen is strong enough to close the game out.
Tigers vs Astros Prediction, Moneyline Pick Analysis
There's some intrigue on the mound for the Astros in this game as right-hander AJ Blubaugh will be making his MLB debut after pitching to a 3.86 ERA over 21 innings at Triple-A Sugar Land. The 24-year-old ranks as the No. 10 prospect in the Astros' organization, according to MLB Pipeline.
That said, I'm taking my chances with Jobe and the Tigers at plus money.
Pick: Tigers ML (+110 or better)
Moneyline
As mentioned, I'm betting Tigers moneyline.
My Pick: Tigers Moneyline.
Run Line (Spread)
I like Detroit to cover as well, but find more value in just taking the outright number.
Over/Under
I lean toward the Over, but don't want to fade Jobe against Houston.
