Tigers vs Cardinals Projected Starting Pitchers
Tigers vs Cardinals MLB Betting Preview
The owners of the best record in baseball are the Detroit Tigers. They've been rolling lately, winning seven of their last 10 ballgames, and begin this series in St. Louis with a ton of momentum.
They enter tonight's matchup fifth in xWOBACON and are among the elite when it comes to consistently making hard contact. Detroit is far from an ideal matchup for Cardinals starting pitcher Sonny Gray.
Gray began the season strong but has taken a few steps back over his last few outings, particularly against elite lineups like the Philadelphia Phillies and New York Mets.
Gray has allowed a lot of hard contact this season, and his strikeout rate is down nearly 6%. That combination should prove to be detrimental against a surging lineup like the Tigers.
Don't expect Detroit's offensive hot streak to end tonight.
The Cardinals also come into this matchup riding high, as they're 8-2 over their last 10 games.
Offensively, the Cardinals are fairly similar to the Tigers. They sit second in the majors in batting average, two points above Detroit.
However, they have had much less power on display, and their brand of baseball relies on putting the ball in play often.
Tonight, the Tigers haven't listed a starting pitcher at the time of writing. Still, the bullpen will likely be relied on heavily, with the possibility of Keider Montero eating up the middle innings.
If that's the case, the Cardinals should find some offensive success; Montero doesn't miss bats and has an xERA of 5.15 through five appearances this season.
As for the rest of the arms out of the pen, the Tigers' bullpen has been excellent, pitching to a 3.21 ERA.
Although, they're due for sizable regression, as their collective FIP and xFIP sit at 3.85 and 3.71, respectively. Look for the Cardinals to lead the offensive output tonight.
Tigers vs Cardinals Prediction, Betting Analysis
This matchup is the ideal clash if you're looking for offensive fireworks on Monday night. Both teams are red-hot and will face regressing pitching staffs.
With warm weather in St. Louis and strikeouts being minimal in this one, we should see these teams trade blows all night long.
Take the over.
