Nick Galaida’s Guardians vs Astros Preview, Picks

The Guardians' offense has struggled mightily against southpaws of late, ranking 28th in wRC+ across the last 14 days.

Meanwhile, the Astros' offense ranks 4th in wRC+ against right-handed pitching during that same period.

Brandon Walter hasn't been overly impressive, but he has relentlessly pounded the strike zone in four of his last five outings, which means he's likely to force a weak Cleveland offense to earn everything they get in the early going today.

On the other side of this matchup, Slade Cecconi has not been missing many bats, nor has he been limiting quality contact.

In the late innings, it's difficult to see how the Guardians plan to compete. Emmanuel Clase and Hunter Gaddis are presumably unavailable after pitching in each of the last three days.

Cade Smith could also be unavailable after appearing in three of the last four days. Jakob Junis, Matt Festa, and Erik Sabrowski would each be pitching for the 3rd time in four days as well.

So, there aren't many fresh arms available for Cleveland manager Steven Vogt today.

The Astros have the better offense, the better starting pitcher, and a more rested arm barn on Wednesday.

Houston is well-positioned to get back in the win column tonight.
