Astros vs Padres MLB Betting Preview
The Astros (60-58) are looking to take two of three on the road against the Padres. They're coming off a tough 3-2 loss, where Padres' right-hander Michael King shut them down across six innings of one-run ball.
Houston is sending out Cristian Javier, who has been rock-solid since rejoining the rotation. He pitched five scoreless innings vs. the Angels on July 27th and then followed that up with three earned runs in six innings vs. the Blue Jays. Don't be surprised if we see a quality outing from Javier here.
The Padres (61-57) are trying to win this home series vs. the Astros. They've been very good at home this season, putting up a 33-26 record.
San Diego is sending out Randy Vasquez, who has been excellent in his last two starts, combining for 10.2 innings with zero earned runs. He seems to have found his groove on the mound.

Astros vs Padres Pick, Betting Analysis
I'm going with Astros ML in this matchup.
This is a bet on Cristian Javier and Houston's edge in the bullpen. Javier is showcasing an improved arsenal since returning to the rotation, featuring a new cutter. He's displaying excellent command, yet has issued no walks in these two starts.
This is a major development because Javier has always struggled with walks. Facing the Padres in a pitcher-friendly environment, I'm betting on a quality outing here.
The Astros didn't use any of their three high-leverage relievers yesterday, as Josh Hader, Steven Okert, and Bryan Abreu had the night off. Meanwhile, Mason Miller (22 pitches), Adrian Morejon (23 pitches), and Jeremiah Estrada (20 pitches) each pitched for the Padres.
If each of these relievers pitches tonight, it would be their third appearance in the last four nights, so they're relatively taxed. I know that Randy Vasquez has performed better lately, but he typically doesn't pitch deep into games and isn't projected to tonight, as his outs prop is at 14.5.
Considering these factors, we'll ride with the Astros here.
