Dodgers vs Braves MLB Betting Preview
The Dodgers just lost their first game since last Monday and look to bounce back against a fellow division leader. This series is a good test for both teams at nearly full strength, showcasing their fortitude for the upcoming playoffs.
With Tyler Glasnow back in the rotation, the Dodgers can start him, Blake Snell, Yoshinobu Yamamoto, recent addition Tarik Skubal, or today's starter, Roki Sasaki, on any given day.
This is shaping up to be one of the greatest rotations in MLB history, and that is without superstar DH/SP Shohei Ohtani for the time being. Nevertheless, Ohtani is throwing and on the mend from his most recent pitching setback.
The offense has not played up to its potential, and that will be difficult without OF Andy Pages for the next month. Regardless, they have enough talent to get back into form soon.
The Braves' lead in the NL East is dwindling after losing 10 of their past 17 games. The Philadelphia Phillies are catching up after a (recently snapped) nine-game winning streak.
Fortunately, the Braves are healthy and underperforming rather than injured and underperforming. Atlanta has the talent to make a deep playoff run, but needs their stars to perform like stars. Outside of Michael Harris II, the offense is stagnant.
Matt Olson and Drake Baldwin have produced admirably this season, but both are cold in recent weeks. Mauricio Dubon has been a welcome bright spot at times, but his production is more complementary.
The Braves did not make any significant trade deadline moves to impact the offense beyond Lane Thomas (as a platoon bat), and that could keep them from a second World Series title in this decade.

Dodgers vs Braves Pick, Betting Analysis
Sasaki and Smith-Shawver have a combined ERA of 10.65, yet we are taking the under on today's run line.
Sasaki has struggled this season, especially on the road, but is dominating in recent starts. He has a 2.63 ERA since July 8, backed by a 3.27 xERA and 3.57 xFIP, while doing better on the road than at home in this span.
There is a lot to like about Sasaki despite his volatile nature. He is easier to trust now, with his fastball velocity spiking around 100 MPH in recent months.
Sasaki will be facing a Braves' offense ranking league-average against RHP (100 wRC+), while sixth-worst overall in the past two weeks (85 wRC+). Even with Ronald Acuna Jr. back in the lineup, they have struggled. The Braves have scored more than four runs once since August 12.
Meanwhile, Smith-Shawver is making his third MLB start of the season. He has been horrible through his first two starts, but was dominant in Triple-A leading up to his activation, with just five ER in 28 w/3 IP and a 22.5% K-BB.
Smith-Shawver is also a much better home pitcher. He has a career 2.35 ERA at home, while he allows a 5.48 ERA on the road. This split is unusual given the similarity of his xFIP, but he induces far more ground balls at home (43.3%) than on the road (30.1%).
The Dodgers' offense is the best against RHP this season (113 wRC+). However, they are without Andy Pages due to a hand injury and below average in the past two weeks (96 wRC+).
Both bullpens have all of their arms available and ready in case either starter struggles early.
Pick: Under 8.5 (+102, FanDuel)
