There is an interleague matchup taking place in this Wednesday MLB matinee with the NL Central's Chicago Cubs hosting the AL West's Seattle Mariners.

Here's a look at the odds, as well as my Mariners vs. Cubs betting pick.

Seattle Mariners

Slated to take the mound for the Seattle Mariners is right-hander Logan Gilbert, who continues to impress since making his debut in 2021. The 6-foot-6 Florida product put together an incredible campaign in 2022, going 13-6 with a 3.20 ERA and 1.18 WHIP while boasting a 22.7 K%.

The beginning of 2023 has been slightly more tumultuous for Gilbert, who is 0-1 with a 3.60 ERA and 1.30 WHIP through two starts. However, those two starts came against a solid Cleveland Guardians lineup, and his underlying metrics suggest further positive regression is likely.

This season, Gilbert ranks in the 76th percentile or higher in xERA/xwOBA, K% and Chase Rate. Utilizing his four-seam fastball to set up his nasty curveball and split-finger, Gilbert boasts an incredible 31 K% and 27.1 Whiff% across those two starts.

Considering those numbers against a much more disciplined Cleveland lineup, Gilbert should have a day in the strikeout department at Wrigley Field.

Chicago Cubs

The offseason news surrounding the Chicago Cubs was their key acquisitions offensively. Boasting a completely revamped lineup, the Cubs brought in Dansby Swanson, Cody Bellinger, Trey Mancini and Eric Hosmer.

However, outside of Hosmer, those guys are only going to further Chicago's strikeout problem. In 2022, the Cubs ranked 22nd in the league in K% when facing right-handed pitching.

Last season, Swanson, Bellinger and Mancini all possessed a K% north of 23%. These strikeout problems have, indeed, continued into the early segment of 2023.

Looking at Wednesday's projected lineup, five of the nine hitters possess a K% north of 22% this year.

Mariners vs. Cubs Betting Pick

Chicago's woes in the strikeout department are likely to continue against the efficient Gilbert. The majority of this lineup has never faced the American League right-hander before Wednesday, which means it will likely take these hitters a few cracks through the order to figure him out.

Pick: Logan Gilbert Over 5.5 Strikeouts (+128)
