For my Wednesday MLB player props, I'll be looking into a trio of props for Andrew Abbott, Carlos Santana and Junior Caminero.
Let's dive into my MLB player prop picks for Wednesday, June 4.
MLB Player Props, Picks — 6/4
- Andrew Abbott Over 4.5 Strikeouts (-130, DraftKings)
- Carlos Santana Over 1.5 Hits + Runs + Runs Batted In (+105, DraftKings)
- Junior Caminero Over 0.5 Runs Batted In (+150, BetMGM)
Brewers vs Reds Player Props: Abbott in Top Form
Almost two years ago, Andrew Abbott made his first MLB start against the Milwaukee Brewers. He allowed just one hit in six scoreless innings while striking out six.
He has now made five career starts against them and has had at least six strikeouts in three of them, allowing two runs or fewer in three of those.
Abbott has settled in as a top-of-the-rotation starter for the Reds, along with Hunter Greene. He has accumulated 8.4 WAR through his first 55 starts.
He has been excellent this year with a 1.51 ERA. The 26-year-old has 53 strikeouts over 47 2/3 innings this season. He has fanned five or more in four of his last five starts.
Abbott has generated 13 strikeouts in 46 at-bats against the projected Brewers lineup. That includes six strikeouts of Christian Yelich and four of Williams Contreras, whom he figures to face twice to three times today.
The Brewers also have scored just five runs in the first two games of this series. If Abbott holds them in check again, he will have the opportunity to pitch long enough to record five strikeouts.
Guardians vs Yankees Player Props: Santana on a Streak
Jose Ramirez's 21-game hitting streak ended on Friday against the Angels. He is in the early stages of putting another lengthy streak together, with two hits in each of his last three games, which might have overshadowed what teammate Carlos Santana has been doing lately.
Carlos Santana has a 12-game hitting streak of his own. In that span, he is hitting .429 with three home runs, eight runs batted in, and 1.244 OPS.
Yankees right-hander Clarke Schmidt is more vulnerable to left-handers with a .789 OPS allowed compared to a .582 OPS for right-handed hitters.
Santana has a single against him in five at-bats and had a tougher matchup last night against Carlos Rodon. He has had far more success against Rodon previously, but Rodon kept him hitless until the ninth inning. Santana then doubled off Devin Williams and came around to score on a Daniel Schneemann single.
As a result, he has cleared two hits + runs + runs batted in 11 of 12 games during his hitting streak, giving us a 91% hit rate at +105 odds.
Perhaps tonight, he will make it a little less sweaty.
Rangers vs Rays Player Props: Favorable Matchup for Caminero
Junior Caminero was considered last night, but he had a tough matchup against Tyler Mahle. The Rays did get four runs off Mahle, but Caminero was hitless against him. However, the Rangers would not be able to hold him down much longer. Caminero homered in the eighth inning off Codi Heuer.
He is showing why he was a top prospect for the last few years, with 14 home runs and 38 runs batted in on the season. In his past six games, he has five home runs and 14 runs batted in and has recorded an RBI in four of those games.
Tonight, he has a more favorable matchup against Kumar Rocker, who will be reinstated from the IL tonight.
Rocker has an 8.10 ERA and 1.75 WHIP this year, allowing three earned runs in four of five starts.
Caminero has reverse splits and is hitting .280 with 10 home runs and 28 RBI against right-handed pitchers. If that continues, he will have a good opportunity to drive in another run tonight.
As a result, I prefer his RBI over his total bases for a slightly better price.
