For my Tuesday MLB player props, I'll be targeting a pair of hot hitters in Addison Barger and Willy Adames. However, let's begin in New York, where Logan Gilbert and the Mariners will be taking on the Yankees.
Let's dive into my MLB player prop picks for July 8, 2025.
MLB Props, Picks — Tuesday, July 8
- Logan Gilbert Over 6.5 Strikeouts (-150, Fanatics)
- Addison Barger Over 1.5 Hits + Runs + Runs Batted In (-150, Fanatics)
- Willy Adames Over 0.5 RBI (+185, Fanatics)
Mariners vs Yankees Player Props: Back Gilbert Tonight
In eight of his last 10 starts, Logan Gilbert has recorded seven strikeouts or more. One notable exception was when he had only three in three innings against the Marlins and subsequently landed on the IL. Since returning in mid-June, Gilbert has 30 strikeouts in 20 innings. Now, back to a normal workload — he threw 95 pitches in his last start– he gets a solid matchup against the Yankees.
This season, the Yankees are seventh in strikeout rate against right-handed pitchers. They have hit Gilbert well in the past, but he also struck out nine when he faced them last September. Against tonight's projected lineup, the Mariners starter has a 27% strikeout rate. He has fanned Aaron Judge, Giancarlo Stanton, Anthony Volpe, Trent Grisham, and Jazz Chisholm at least twice.
For the season, Gilbert has a career-best 36.8% strikeout rate, which ranks in the 97th percentile. He also ranks in the 92nd percentile in chase rate and 97th percentile in whiff rate.
There is a lot of swing and miss in this Yankees lineup, which is why I like this spot for Gilbert today. If he works five innings or more, I like his chances of getting seven strikeouts.
Blue Jays vs White Sox Player Props: Hot Streak for Barger
At the end of May, the Blue Jays were below .500 and looking up at the Yankees in the AL East. Now they are 15 games over .500 and hold a 3 1/2 game lead in the division. One of the surprise contributors has been Addison Barger.
In his first taste of The Show, Barger hit just .197 with a .601 OPS last season. This season, he has a .801 OPS on the strength of 12 home runs and 37 runs batted in. He is scolding the ball at almost every opportunity. Barger has an average exit velocity of 93.6 mph, a 54.8% hard-hit percentage, and a .546 xSLG, ranking in the 93rd percentile or better in all categories.
He is hitting .391 with three home runs, 11 RBI, and a 1.310 OPS over the past week. That includes a two-run home run last night that helped the Blue Jays break the game open.
Tonight, he will face Aaron Civale. The right-hander has allowed eight home runs in just 43 innings and is also surrendering an .868 OPS to left-handers.
That will bode well for Barger, who has an .888 OPS against right-handed pitchers. He has recorded two hits + runs + runs batted in seven of his last 10 games. He will certainly have the opportunity to get there tonight as the Blue Jays look to extend their win streak to double digits.
Phillies vs Giants Player Props: Great Matchup for Adames
The Giants have been big-game hunting in free agency over the last few years, but haven't always enjoyed the most success in that department. One big fish they were able to land last offseason was shortstop Willy Adames from Milwaukee. Adames' tenure in the Bay Area has not gotten off to the best of starts. However, heading into the All-Star break, he is starting to heat up.
Adames enters tonight's game riding an eight-game hitting streak. He is 12-for-29 (.413) with two home runs and nine RBI in that span. Adames has driven in a run in four of his last eight games, and I like the spot for him tonight against Taijuan Walker.
Adames is 4-for-8 with two solo home runs off Walker, who is re-joining Philadelphia's rotation as a spot starter after Mick Abel was sent down to Triple-A.
Walker has fared well out of the bullpen, with a 3.64 ERA on the year. However, he has allowed four runs or more in three of his last five outings of four innings or more. He may not work more than four innings tonight, but that would give Adames a couple of at-bats against him. Another solo shot will give him his 46th RBI of the season.
