Yankees Betting Preview: Bombers Look to Exploit Coors Field
It's safe to say the Yankees have caught fire, having won four in a row and eight of their last 10 ballgames coming into this matchup. While we saw their pitching shine against Texas, their bats are going to be very loud at Coors Field tonight.
The Bronx Bombers have lived up to their nickname. They lead the majors in xWOBACON, holding the top barrel rate and average exit velocity.
The Yankees have been crushing the baseball and are the last lineup an opposing pitcher wants to face in the most hitter-friendly atmosphere in baseball.
That unfortunate task will be given to Tanner Gordon. The Rockies' right-hander will make just his second start of the season and the ninth of his career. Gordon's first outing of the 2025 campaign did not go well.
He allowed seven runs on nine hits over 6 1/3 innings. That was against Detroit; New York is levels above what he's seen.
Look for the Yankees to come out swinging and open up a big early lead against Gordon.

The Rockies are heading in the complete opposite direction. They have lost nine of their last 10 and sit at 8-42 on the season.
Colorado has been historically bad through the first two months, and a big reason why is a lack of offense. It's hard to take advantage of Coors Field when you struggle to make contact.
The Rockies have the highest whiff rate in the majors and the lowest xBA. Their lineup presents almost no threats, which is great news for Yankees starter Clarke Schmidt.
Schmidt has been solid for the Yankees, throwing three consecutive quality starts against the Padres, Mariners, and Mets. Each of those lineups is light years above the Rockies.
So, even though pitching at altitude is an adjustment, the Rockies' bats are likely to stay quiet tonight.

It's difficult to find angles in mismatches like tonight's between the Yankees and Rockies. However, there is value in shortening the game, as New York is likely to do most of its damage early.
The Yankees are expected to score four runs over the first five innings, while the Rockies are favored to score two.
Even if that is the exact result, New York would cover its first five innings (F5) spread, but I think we see the Yankees outperform that projection offensively while holding Colorado to one run or fewer.
