Since he entered the Guardians’ rotation in the middle of last season, Cal Quantrill has served as a reliable and effective innings-eater. So far in 2022, he’s pitching to a 3.76 ERA over 76.2 innings.
While he’s stayed under this line in his last two starts against the Dodgers and Red Sox, he had pitched at least six innings in his previous seven starts.
Quantrill isn’t going to overwhelm opponents with his arsenal — he’s averaging just 5.6 strikeouts per nine innings. Where he excels is at limiting hard contact. His 35.7% hard-hit rate rates in the 68th percentile and is a direct result of the movement he generates on his sinker and cutter.
The righty has had success versus the Twins’ hitters in prior matchups, holding them to a 9-of-57 clip (.157 BAA).
