Giants vs Cubs MLB Betting Preview

San Francisco Giants Betting Preview

The Giants (26-39) have won three of their last four games, trying to take the rubber match in this three-gamer on the road against the Cubs. After coming into Saturday's action with 30 runs in their previous two games, the Giants' bats went cold in a 3-2 loss.

San Francisco is sending out Trevor McDonald, whose overall numbers are inflated by a seven-run outing against the White Sox on May 22nd. McDonald has given up three earned runs or fewer in each of his other five outings.

The Giants' high-leverage relievers were used yesterday, including Keaton Winn and Caleb Kilian, but they should still be available tonight.

Chicago Cubs Betting Preview

The Cubs (34-31) have gone 3-5 in their last eight games, set to try to take two of three from the Giants. They had a much-needed comeback win on Saturday, when Pete Crow-Armstrong erased a 2-1 deficit with a solo home run in the ninth inning, followed by an RBI single by Michael Busch to win the game in the 10th.

Chicago is going with Jameson Taillon, who has struggled mightily this season. However, the veteran righty is coming off a strong outing against the Athletics, where he went 6.1 innings, allowing two earned runs on six hits with one walk and six strikeouts.

As for the bullpen, it's likely that Jacob Webb (32 pitches on Saturday) and Caleb Thielbar (coming off consecutive outings) will be unavailable.

Giants vs Cubs Pick, Betting Analysis

I'm riding with Giants/Cubs Under 8 for a couple of reasons.

For one, Trevor McDonald is much better than his surface stats suggest, as evidenced by a 3.17 SIERA, which is considerably lower than his 4.50 ERA.

More importantly, the wind is blowing in at about 7 MPH, with temperatures at 73 degrees at Wrigley Field tonight. That could help mitigate Jameson Taillon's flyball tendencies.

Add in the fact that Taillon is coming off one of his best outings of the season, and you can see why the under looks appealing here.

Pick: Under 8 Under 8 (-105, DraftKings)
