San Francisco Giants Betting Preview

I have concerns about Logan Webb returning from injury. I don't believe the Giants starter rehabbed before coming back. San Francisco is just trying to get him back in the fold and get their season righted as quickly as they can.

Now this is a very interesting stylistic matchup between Webb, who pounds the zone, and the Rockies, who swing more than any other team in baseball.

Colorado has the second-highest first pitch strike rate and the highest swing rate among all teams in baseball because they're swinging at strike one pretty much every pitch. And Logan Webb, as we know, likes to get the ball over and gets a lot of called strikes.

So a very interesting dynamic between a team who swings a ton and a pitcher who puts the ball in the zone regularly.

I have downgraded Webb, very slightly compared to his preseason projections. At preseason, he was probably closer to a 3.3 projected FIP. Right now, I have him closer to a 3.5 due to slight underperformance thus far this season.

Colorado Rockies Betting Preview

On the Rockies, we have Michael Lorenzen on the mound, a guy who has drastically outperformed his home metrics on the road. He's been a much better pitcher away from Coors Field than he has been in Colorado.

Granted, this game is at Coors, and his numbers there are pretty terrifying this season. But when you look at the underlying indicators, they are closer to a 4.74 FIP, you know, not the 7.21 ERA he's carrying.

So I do think Lorenzen will be a little bit better at home the rest of the way.

Giants vs Rockies Pick, Betting Analysis

I'm not fully sure what to expect from Logan Webb in his first start back, but in terms of process, these are two of the worst offenses in baseball.

They just do not make good swing decisions on either team, and there's not a ton of power on either lineup as well.

I give the Rockies a D power grade and the Giants a C. I give both of them a D-minus eye rating, so I do not like either offense.

I think both starting pitchers throw enough strikes to keep the opposing lineup in check. Unfortunately, we are betting Under 10.5 as opposed to getting an 11, but we do have some weather potentially helping knock this total down today.

So, I'm going with Under 10.5, down to 10, and even money between the Rockies and the Giants.

If this wasn't Webb coming off an injury, or if we had a larger sample where he had been pitching at least effectively, I would like this bet a little more than I do, but we'll keep it.

Pick: Under 10.5 (+100, Fanatics | Play to Under 10)
