Derek Carty’s Giants vs Brewers Betting Preview, Prediction
It’s a matchup of southpaws tonight in Milwaukee, with veteran Jose Quintana on the mound for the Brewers against Carson Whisenhunt, a top prospect for the Giants. Whisenhunt has scuffled a bit in his first three starts since joining the rotation, but there’s still plenty of upside — he’s a Top 100 guy, and the Giants think highly of him.
At this point, I don’t think Whisenhunt is anything amazing, but the lines we’re getting on this game create some real value. More than anything, this looks like the market overreacting to recent form. The Brewers may not be on their crazy win streak anymore, but they’ve still taken 16 of their last 20. Meanwhile, the Giants have dropped 10 of their last 12.
Because of that, we’re seeing the Giants at +135 on the moneyline — and I don’t think they should be that big of an underdog. It's an overreaction to what's been happening lately, which, as we know for many years of studying baseball data, really is not all that predictive.
For that reason, I like the Giants here. I have them closer to +115, which means there’s plenty of value here even if the price comes down a bit.
Pick: Giants Moneyline (+135, Fanatics)
