Tony Sartori’s Mariners vs Blue Jays Preview
Right-hander Logan Gilbert has been tremendous since entering the league in 2021. Through his first five seasons with the Mariners, Gilbert is 47-36 with a 3.58 ERA and 1.03 WHIP.
Consistency has been a staple of Gilbert’s career, and his statistics from this season align with his elite performance over the past four years. His underlying metrics in 2025 were particularly impressive, as he finished in the 96th percentile or higher in xERA, xBA, strikeout rate and walk rate.
That success has continued into the postseason. Across two playoff starts, the right-hander is 1-0 with a 2.46 ERA and 1.18 WHIP.
Toronto is also a team Gilbert has fared well against. Over their past three meetings, he owns a 2.93 ERA.
Meanwhile, the Blue Jays hand the ball to right-handed rookie Trey Yesavage. While the 2024 first-round draft pick is the organization’s top prospect, he remains raw at 22 years old.
If he officially qualified, Yesavage would have finished the 2025 season in the bottom half of the league in xERA, xBA, average exit velocity and hard-hit rate.
Now, he’s being thrown into a high-pressure situation with Toronto’s season on the line, something that could prove especially rattling given his performance in Game 2 against the Mariners. In that outing, Yesavage surrendered five runs in just four innings en route to a 10-3 loss.
The opposing starter in that game? Gilbert.
Mariners vs Blue Jays Prediction, Betting Analysis
This game is likely to mirror Game 2, as the key variables remain unchanged, except for the added pressure of potential elimination for Toronto. That situational factor has moved the betting line past a reasonable point, despite the clear statistical and experiential edge favoring Seattle.
Gilbert is the more seasoned pitcher, while Yesavage may struggle again under the spotlight, particularly against a lineup that previously roughed him up.
At plus-money, it’s worth backing a Mariners team that earned a 10-3 road win the last time these starters squared off.

Moneyline
As mentioned, I'm betting the Mariners moneyline.
Run Line (Spread)
I also like the Mariners to cover, but I find more value in just taking the outright moneyline price.
Over/Under
I lean toward the under, but don't trust Yesavage.
