Rangers vs Brewers MLB Betting Preview

Cal Quantrill has been exactly what the Rangers have needed lately. Through 27 games, 10 of which are starts, Quantrill has pitched to a 2.90 ERA.

However, with Nathan Eovaldi sidelined the past few weeks, we've seen Quantrill fill his spot in the rotation. The higher volume of outs required from him leaves him more susceptible to regression, and his numbers indicate that he is due for some sizable regression.

His 2.90 ERA is countered by a 4.62 xFIP as he's benefited greatly from producing soft contact and hitters chasing outside the zone to produce said contact. Quantrill does not miss bats, and that is a quality that the Brewers will capitalize on.

Milwaukee is fourth in the majors in wRC+ against righties, and they've achieved that rank by putting the ball in play frequently with authority. However, most importantly, they've done so without chasing, as they have the lowest chase rate in the majors.

In addition to the tough matchup, Quantrill's length is a real question mark, as we've seen him provide a variety of usage as a starter. He comes into this outing having tossed 13 innings of shutout ball over his last two starts, but then has only gone over 15 outs in half of his starts.

As I said before, his last two outings are certainly respectable, but the longer he's out there, the more likely his impending regression is to come into play. Look for the Brewers to capitalize and get him out of the game before the sixth.

Pick: Cal Quantrill Under 15.5 Outs Recorded (-134, DraftKings)
