Toronto Blue Jays vs Detroit Tigers MLB Preview

Toronto Blue Jays Betting Preview

The Blue Jays rolled to an 11-4 victory in the opening game of this series. However, they are in a prime spot to keep rolling tonight as they get to face Keider Montero.

Montero has had a rough 2025 campaign as a spot starter/ bulk reliever. He enters his ninth start of the season with a 4.28 ERA and 1.38 WHIP on the season.

He has struggled to generate swings and misses this season as his strikeout rate sits in the 14th percentile and his whiff rate is in the ninth percentile.

He is a great matchup for this Blue Jays lineup that boasts the lowest strikeout rate in the majors against right-handed pitching.

Expect Toronto to put the ball in play often with authority, as they rank ninth in hard-hit rate and wRC+ against righties.

This will shorten an already short leash for Montero, who has only recorded an out in the sixth inning twice this season.

Detroit Tigers Betting Preview

As for the Tigers, they are in need of a bounce-back day at the plate after Eric Lauer and company contained them in a situation where the Tigers have typically excelled.

They have a good matchup tonight against Jose Berrios.

Like his counterpart in this matchup, Berrios has not produced many whiffs and is very fortunate to have a 3.87 ERA on the season.

An xERA of 4.71 and xFIP of 4.16 suggest a sizable regression is on the way, and the Tigers have the bats to start it tonight.

Detroit has been solid against righties, sporting a 105 wRC+, but strikeouts have derailed their production as they hold the third-highest strikeout rate against right-handers as well.

Blue Jays vs Tigers Betting Predictions

This matchup is a coin flip, as we've seen support for both sides. However, I have no interest in taking a clear side as the best angle is to fade Keider Montero directly.

The young right-hander has a rough matchup ahead of him and has shown no signs of positive regression.

Look for the Blue Jays to knock him around during the first five and have him make high-stress pitches early in this one.

Additionally, Detroit can afford to be aggressive with its bullpen in this one, as only two arms mopped up in yesterday's loss.

A.J. Hinch shouldn't let this one get away early.
