An IL stint derailed Gilbert's chances of getting 200 strikeouts for the second consecutive season. However, he still finished with 173 strikeouts in 131 innings while posting a 3.44 ERA and 32% strikeout rate. Today, he gets a great matchup against the Tigers.

The Tigers finished the regular season fourth in strikeout rate. They have not changed their ways in the playoffs as they have 59 strikeouts through their first five playoff games. This will be their first playoff matchup at home at Comerica Park, where the Tigers averaged 8.6 strikeouts per game in the regular season.

Gilbert had nine strikeouts against the Tigers in Detroit this season and 10 in Seattle, needing only 10 and 1/3 innings for 19 combined. Manager Dan Wilson did not let George Kirby or Luis Castillo go beyond the fifth inning in the first two games, and the Mariners bullpen is rested finally an off day. However, Gilbert has already shown he may only need five innings to get to seven strikeouts.

Against the Tigers' hitters, he has 21 strikeouts in 77 at-bats. Given the struggles of the Tigers' hitters right now, I'm giving Gilbert the edge in this matchup.

If there was one thing I expected in this ALDS, it was Guerrero torching the Yankees. In his career, Guerrero is slashing .302/.367/.550 with 22 home runs and 74 RBI in 102 games against the Bronx Bombers, hitting .373 with two home runs and nine RBI against the them this regular season alone. He has nearly already matched that output, going 6-for-9 with two home runs and six RBI through the first two games of this series.

Tonight, Guerrero will face Carlos Rodón, who he is 10-for-17 with three doubles, a home run, five RBI, and 1.608 OPS against. This season, he hit .326 with eight doubles, six home runs, and a .946 OPS in 135 at-bats against left-handers. While right-handers only hit .192 against Rodon, he still allowed 25 doubles and 17 home runs to them this past year.

Guerrero has three hits and at least two RBI in the first two games of this series. He should clear both his total bases and hits + runs + RBI lines tonight. However, I am going with total bases for the better price.
