Grizzlies vs Trail Blazers NBA Preview
I am irrationally excited about this basketball game; this is the undisputed League Pass Super Bowl. We have the undefeated Memphis Grizzlies taking on the undefeated Portland Trail Blazers two weeks into the season.
Let's be honest: one of these teams is simply not for real, and I am leaning toward the Grizzlies being the far more sustainable squad.
We have to ask ourselves: is it more plausible that Memphis legitimately has a top-five defense, or that Portland actually has the best offense in the NBA? I am betting on the Memphis defense.
The Grizzlies also benefit from a rest advantage here, having had two full days off to rest and recover, while the Blazers operate on just one day of rest.
With Ty Jerome acting as an analytics darling and offensive engine, Memphis has the perimeter firepower to hang around.
Portland is undeniably fun right now. Damian Lillard has returned to the franchise, and joining forces with Ja Morant in that backcourt makes for phenomenal television.
However, I see a wave of statistical regression on the horizon for this Trail Blazers team. They have been an absolute wagon offensively, but expecting them to maintain the number one scoring offense in the league against stout defensive units is a stretch.
Memphis also has the specific personnel to neutralize Portland's interior presence. Zach Edey looks like a legitimate Donovan Clingan-eraser in the paint, coming off an impactful performance with two blocks in his recent return to the floor.
Grizzlies vs Trail Blazers Pick, Betting Analysis
Early market reads strongly indicate this is a sharp Memphis side, and getting a hook on the key number of seven is fantastic value. I couldn't believe this line was hanging at 7.5, and if you can find it at even-money or +102, grab it immediately.
To correlate with the full-game spread, I will also play the Grizzlies First Half Spread at +3.5. If you like a big underdog of seven or more points to cover the full game, they usually need to be competitive in the first half.
That has been the winning formula for Memphis this season. The Grizzlies currently rank in the top five in first-half scoring differential, keeping games tight early before their elite defense locks in late.
I love the Grizzlies to keep this close from the opening tip.
Picks: Grizzlies +7.5 (-110) / Grizzlies 1H +3.5 (-104)
