- The Pelicans are in Boston to take on the Celtics (7:30 p.m. ET, NBA TV). The line was at BOS -7.5 before the Celtics' injury report was released.
- Kyrie Irving (shoulder) was ruled out, with Gordon Hayward (illness) and Al Horford (knee) both doubtful.
- Following the news, the line moved to BOS -3, with the over/under dropping from 227 to 222.5.
On Monday afternoon shortly after 12:30 p.m. ET, a glut of Celtics injuries were announced for a number of star players.
#NEBHInjuryReport for tonight vs. New Orleans:
Aron Baynes (left ankle sprain) – OUT
Gordon Hayward (illness) – DOUBTFUL
Al Horford (left knee soreness) – DOUBTFUL
Kyrie Irving (right shoulder soreness) – OUT
Guerschon Yabusele (right ankle sprain) – OUT— Boston Celtics (@celtics) December 10, 2018
The Celtics opened as six-point favorites against the Pelicans yesterday afternoon and had moved up to -7.5 behind more than 70% of spread bets before the news broke.
However, with these injuries, oddsmakers took the game off the board and re-opened at BOS -3. It moved to -3.5 shortly afterwards.
The over/under was also greatly impacted, falling from 227 to 222.5.
Oddsmakers view Irving as the most valuable Celtics player to the spread, being worth between two and three points. Before the season, Hayward and Horford were worth around a point each, but Hayward's value may have gone down a bit since then given his play and diminished role as he eases back into things.
