With the 2025 NBA Playoffs in full swing, most analysts are breaking down defensive matchups, offensive efficiency, and win shares. But after years of hot takes, cold streaks, and busted brackets, we thought: what if the key to predicting NBA greatness isn’t just about matchups and momentum — but Mercury and Mars?

Action Network has taken a galaxy-brained approach to this year’s title race, analyzing the zodiac signs of every player on past NBA championship rosters from the last 75 years to let the cosmos call the shots. After assigning each star sign a Zodiac Success Score, based on how often it’s appeared on a winning team, we applied that same logic to the rosters of this year’s playoff contenders.

The result? A cosmic power ranking of the 2025 playoff teams — based not on seeding or injuries, but on astrology. And it’s ready to shake up your playoff predictions.

Let’s break it down.

Zodiac Power Rankings: Which Signs Dominate the NBA Playoffs?

Some signs shine brightest when banners go up. Here's how each zodiac sign has historically performed on title-winning teams:

Fun Fact: Virgo has appeared on more NBA championship rosters than any other zodiac sign — with a staggering 108 appearances. Analytical, focused, and team-first? Sounds like the perfect role player for a title run.

2025 NBA Playoff Teams, Ranked by Zodiac Score

Let’s see how this year’s squads stack up, cosmically speaking.

Top Cosmic Contenders

New York Knicks (118.10)

Could the Knicks end their title drought by trusting the universe? With a zodiac score this high, the stars are definitely aligned. Their roster is heavy with Virgos and Aries — signs that dominate in NBA championship history.

Denver Nuggets (112.04)

The defending champs are still up there, zodiac-wise. Jokic’s sign? Pisces — the dreamy, instinctive water sign that’s surprisingly effective in tight playoff moments.

Middle of the Zodiac Pack

Orlando Magic (102.12)

The Magic might be young, but astrologically, they’ve got serious cosmic composure. With a strong mix of Pisces and Cancer energy — signs known for intuition and emotional intelligence — Orlando could surprise doubters and cast a spell on the Eastern Conference.

Indiana Pacers (100.84)

The Pacers boast a well-balanced zodiac profile that leans on adaptable Geminis and grounded Taureans. They may not stand out astrologically, but sometimes balance beats brilliance — especially in a long playoff grind.

Cosmic Underdogs: The Bottom Three

NBA TeamTotal Zodiac Score
New York Knicks118.10
Memphis Grizzlies115.35
Denver Nuggets112.04

Oklahoma City Thunder (84.12)

Zodiac-wise, the Thunder didn’t impress the stars — ranking near the bottom of our cosmic model. But on the court? They’ve been electric. With a young, fearless roster led by rising stars, OKC might just be proof that sometimes, real talent overshadows astrological alignment. Call it chaos, call it chemistry — either way, the Thunder are rewriting the script.

Boston Celtics (81.65)

Despite being a favorite in traditional metrics, Boston has the lowest zodiac power score of all playoff teams. Too many Capricorns? Not enough Virgos? Either way, the astrology gods aren’t exactly feeling the vibe.

Then again — this is Boston. They just might defy the cosmos and challenge the stars themselves for the trophy.

The Cosmic Call: Who’s Destined to Win?

If you’re putting your trust in the stars, the New York Knicks are the team to back in 2025. With the highest zodiac score of any playoff team, they’ve already won the cosmic vote — now it’s just a matter of whether they can turn that stardust into a championship.

Of course, basketball isn’t played in birth charts. But patterns are patterns… and this season, the stars have certainly made their case for a Knicks title.

Methodology

To determine which NBA playoff team is most “cosmically aligned” to win the 2025 title, we built a zodiac-based prediction model using historical data from past championship teams and current player rosters.

Step 1: Zodiac Power Ranking

We analyzed the zodiac signs of every player on NBA championship-winning teams over the last 25–30 years. Each zodiac sign was then scored based on how frequently it appeared across these title rosters.

This became our Zodiac Success Score — a 1 to 10 scale reflecting how “championship-prone” each sign has been.

Step 2: 2025 Playoff Roster Analysis

We compiled the full rosters of the 16 teams entering the 2025 NBA Playoffs and identified the zodiac sign of every player using their birthdates.

Each player’s zodiac sign was then matched to its corresponding Zodiac Success Score, and each team received a Total Zodiac Score based on the sum of all player scores.

  • The maximum possible team score is 180 — assuming a full roster of 18 players (including standard and two-way contracts), each with a perfect zodiac score of 10.
  • The higher the score, the more “cosmically aligned” the team was with historical championship patterns.
