Paying large amount of juice to get +7. I think 6.5 is still fine, way too much love for Georgia Tech for no reason.

First Best Bet of the College Football season. I think we’re getting too much respect baked into this number for what Georgia Tech accomplished last season, rather than what the Yellow Jackets actually bring into 2026. Georgia Tech was legitimately good last year, finishing 9-4, but I also thought that team benefited from some favorable variance and won its share of close games. More importantly, this is not the same Georgia Tech team. The Jackets lost a massive amount of high end production from that roster, especially offensively. It starts with Haynes King, the 2025 ACC Player of the Year and the engine of this offense. King absolutely killed Colorado in last year’s matchup and ultimately made the difference in Georgia Tech’s 27-20 win. He’s now in the NFL. Georgia Tech also lost Malik Rutherford, Eric Rivers, Keylan Rutledge, Jamal Haynes, and several other major contributors from last year’s team. Then there’s Aaron Philo transferring to Florida, which I think was a brutal blow to this quarterback room. Philo followed former Georgia Tech OC Buster Faulkner to Gainesville and has already won Florida’s starting quarterback job. That leaves Alberto Mendoza making his first career collegiate start tonight. I’m simply not sold on Mendoza. His brother Fernando was the Heisman winner and #1 overall NFL Draft pick, but Alberto isn’t his brother, and I don’t think we should evaluate him like he is. Mendoza saw limited action last year at Indiana and is now being asked to replace one of the best quarterbacks in Georgia Tech history. That’s a significant downgrade at the most important position on the field. Georgia Tech also enters tonight with new coordinators on both sides of the football, including George Godsey replacing Faulkner as the offensive play caller. Laying nearly a touchdown with a team replacing its star quarterback, a ton of offensive production, both coordinators, and starting a quarterback making his first career start? No thanks. This Colorado team, while poorly coached at times, is incredibly talented and has a much better roster than last season. Colorado quietly upgraded the roster considerably through the portal. The Buffs portal haul ranks #7 nationally and #1 in the Big 12, with 45 additions and significantly more incoming talent than outgoing talent. So while Colorado went 3-9 last season, I’m not interested in treating this as the same football team. Where I really like Colorado is in the trenches. I live by the fact that games are won in the trenches. Colorado’s projected offensive line ranks 40th overall and 35th in pass protection, compared with Georgia Tech’s front seven at 47th and 44th. More importantly, on the other side, Colorado’s front seven has a massive projected advantage against Georgia Tech’s offensive line, particularly Colorado’s #8 pass rush against Georgia Tech’s #74 pass protection, while Colorado’s run defense grades #22 against Georgia Tech’s #49 run blocking. That matters even more considering what Georgia Tech wants to do. They’re expected to lean heavily on the running game behind Justice Haynes while protecting an inexperienced quarterback. If Colorado can win early downs, slow down that rushing attack, and force Mendoza into obvious passing situations against this Buffs pass rush, I think Georgia Tech could have real problems consistently moving the football. Our model agrees that 6.5 points is too many. It projects Georgia Tech to win just 27.44-23.50, making the fair spread roughly Georgia Tech -3.9. At the current +6.5, we’re getting about 2.6 points of value versus our number. Georgia Tech can absolutely win this game at home, considering the coaching and home field advantage. However, I just don’t believe this version of Georgia Tech deserves to be laying nearly a touchdown against a Colorado roster that I think is considerably better than the market is giving it credit for. Give me the Buffs and the points.

I think Brennen Marion running the Gogo is interesting here but it really could be a situation where it takes a little time to get it going. I like Julian Lewis and he will be a nice player here and Scudero will catch a ton of passes out of the slot.
But it’s going to take some time like we saw at Sacramento state last year and at UNLV the year before.
Lots of running on both sides. Clock should move quick. Red zone defense will be critical here in forcing field goals or 4th down stops.
GT might struggle offensively after losing the OC, QB, RB, should see more 2-TE sets
GT looks ready to go on the DL. Have some talent. Secondary looks iffy but I’m not convinced Colorado is equipped to torch it with some of the short passes they will use.
I like under 51.5 here.
