West Virginia vs Virginia College Football Preview
West Virginia Mountaineers Betting Preview: Running Wild
West Virginia enters Week 3 with plenty of momentum after opening the season 2-0 for the first time since 2018.
The Mountaineers began the year by taking out Coastal Carolina 31-24 in a game that was probably closer than they would have liked.
They followed that up with a much more complete performance last Saturday, rolling past UT Martin 52-7.
Rich Rod was still not entirely satisfied afterward, but West Virginia scored touchdowns on six of its first eight possessions and nearly pitched a shutout.
QB Michael Hawkins Jr. has brought a dual-threat element to the offense in the second season of Rodriguez’s second tenure in Morgantown.
Dare I say he has a little Pat White in him? The Oklahoma transfer has thrown for 287 yards and three touchdowns in the first two games while adding three more scores on the ground.
Hawkins is not carrying the rushing attack by himself. Jacksonville State transfer Cam Cook has established himself as the lead back and has already carried the rock 40 times for 194 yards and three touchdowns through two games.
DJ Epps has emerged as the top target in the passing game thus far, and his explosiveness is a jolt that this offense needed from last year.
Defensively, West Virginia has looked solid through the first two weeks, though it is fair to acknowledge the schedule has not presented many challenges.
The Mountaineers will need a strong effort from their front seven against a Virginia offense that has already gone for 93 points through two games.

Virginia Cavaliers Betting Preview: Picking Up Where They Left Off
Virginia has been one of the more impressive teams in the country through the opening weeks of the season.
The Cavaliers opened with a dominant 34-8 win over ACC opponent NC State before crushing Norfolk State 59-3 last Friday.
Tony Elliott’s team is 2-0, ranked 25th and has outscored its first two opponents by 82 points.
Last year was a historic one for the Cavaliers, and they are looking to build on it in 2026.
Missouri transfer QB Beau Pribula has been excellent to start his final college campaign. Pribula has completed 21 of 25 passes for 317 yards, tossed five touchdowns to just one interception, while also giving Virginia another legitimate threat on the ground.
Running back Xay Davis has looked good early, and there appears to be some solid depth in the WR room, with Da’Shawn Martin and Jacquon Gibson being two standouts.
The defense may be the biggest reason Virginia enters this matchup favored by double digits. Defensive coordinator John Rudzinski’s unit has allowed only 11 points through two games, and the early underlying numbers are encouraging.
Virginia ranks inside the top 30 in Defensive Success Rate, Defensive Finishing Drives and Havoc.
Rutgers transfer CB Jacobie Henderson has been all over the field, recording 13 tackles through two games, while safety Brandyn Hillman has already intercepted three passes.
They will pose a different challenge than what Hawkins has seen thus far, but this will also be the most dynamic offense that Rudzinski’s defense has faced to this point.

West Virginia vs Virginia Pick, Betting Analysis
Virginia is rightfully favored in this Big 12/ACC clash.
The Cavaliers have been the more impressive team through two weeks, own the best victory between the two sides and appear to have the stronger defense.
That said, I think laying 10.5 points is asking Virginia to create too much separation against a capable West Virginia team on a neutral field.
The matchup between the West Virginia rushing attack and Virginia’s defensive front will go a long way in determining whether the Mountaineers can stay within the number.
Cook gives Rodriguez a physical option between the tackles, while Hawkins forces the Cavaliers to account for the quarterback on every play. If West Virginia can stay ahead of the chains, it can shorten the game and keep Pribula on the sideline.
Hawkins’ mobility also gives the Mountaineers an answer when Virginia generates pressure.
Look for Rich Rod to slow this one down a bit and get creative on third downs.
Virginia has its fanbase buzzing after the first two victories, but it is worth mentioning both of those came in Charlottesville. Expect plenty of the ‘Country Roads’ faithful to be in Bank of America Stadium.
I expect the Cavaliers to ultimately get the win, but Cook and Hawkins should generate enough offense to keep the Mountaineers within striking distance into the fourth quarter.
Give me the Mountaineers as a double-digit dog.
Pick: West Virginia +10.5
