Another one that isn’t for the faint of heart. Palmer didn’t see a target until Buffalo’s final two plays last week. The first was nearly picked off to end the game, then the second somehow turned into the go-ahead 34-yard TD.
Allen even said afterward they had never repped that play going to Palmer and “probably shouldn’t do things like that going forward”
I went back and watched every Palmer route from Week 1, and most of the time he was just running deep/clearout stuff to open up the rest of the field. If Buffalo keeps leaning into heavy 3TE usage, his playing time should stay limited too. That gives him a massive range of outcomes. He can very realistically go 0/0/0, or catch one 30-yard bomb and make this look like the dumbest bet of the night.
My sim has him around 16 yards on average but only a 9.5-yard median, with Under 12.5 around 57%. Classic mean-vs-median prop where a few explosive outcomes drag the average way up even though most paths still land below the number.
And yes, these props suck to bet because if he does nothing, nobody remembers it. If he catches one deep ball, I get “nice pick idiot” replies for the next hour. But Palmer’s fluky 1/34/1 Week 1 line is exactly the kind of thing I want to sell high on.

Last weeks game environment was great, but this one just might be better. Detroit is a 4.5-point underdog against Buffalo with a massive 53.5-point total, which is exactly the type of spot I want for a secondary receiver. I’m expecting Detroit to have to throw, and I’m much more comfortable projecting volume when they’re unlikely to be able to lean on the run for four quarters. Buffalo also just allowed 31 points to Houston in Week 1, and was a defense I was projecting as firmly below average before the season.
The biggest takeaway from last week for me is that the route participation was there. TeSlaa didn't disappear from the offense despite the zero-catch result. He was on the field and running routes at a rate that supports the role I projected coming into the season. Now we get a significantly better passing environment and a defense I’m not particularly concerned about.
I also think there’s some positive regression coming simply from the fact that he only saw one target while running 75% of the routes. I’m not expecting him to suddenly command a massive target share with Amon-Ra St. Brown and Jameson Williams ahead of him, but he doesn’t need that. At 14.5 yards, one catch can put us in position to cash this. Reminder that in games last season where Teslaa played over 50% of the snaps, he averaged 31.2 receiving yards and 2.4 receptions per game.
Ultimately, I’m treating last week as a production miss rather than a usage miss. The role I was betting on showed up. Now we get an unchanged line and an even better game environment for TeSlaa to cash us out on Thursday night.

We have two of the most explosive offenses in football playing tonight, and I expect both teams to have plenty of opportunities to score. Our model projects a fair total of 61 points, giving us 6.5 points of value compared to the current total of 54.5. Buffalo’s offense picked up right where it left off, scoring 36 points against the BEST defense in the league (Texans). The Bills ranked fifth in EPA per play, fourth in passing EPA, second in explosive play rate and second in yards per pass during Week 1. They also averaged 3.60 points per drive, the fourth best mark in the NFL. Josh Allen was as aggressive as ever. He led the league with 12.6 air yards per attempt and threw deep on 24% of his passes, by far the highest rate in Week 1. He did that against arguably the best secondary in football, and now he faces a Detroit defense missing both starting safeties, Kerby Joseph and Brian Branch. DJ Moore immediately looked like the true #1 receiver Buffalo has been missing, finishing with 100 yards and a touchdown in his debut. Dalton Kincaid also produced 130 yards, and Buffalo’s heavy use of 13 personnel should create difficult matchups without preventing Allen from attacking downfield. Detroit’s defense was approximately league average in most Week 1 categories and allowed the Saints to convert 50% of their third downs. That could make it extremely difficult to consistently get Allen off the field. Detroit’s offensive line injuries are the biggest concern for this over. The Lions will be without Cade Mays, Christian Mahogany and Blake Miller. However, Penei Sewell and Tate Ratledge remain healthy, while the three expected replacements each have at least 20 career starts. Detroit specifically improved its offensive line depth during the offseason, so it won’t be relying on completely inexperienced backups. The Lions also get to face the clear weakness of this Buffalo team. The Bills allowed Houston to score 31 points in Week 1 and ranked 19th in defensive EPA per play, 22nd in success rate and 20th in points allowed per drive. Detroit’s offense started slowly in its opener but still finished with 31 points. Detroit was especially productive on the ground, averaging 5.09 yards per carry. While Buffalo defended the run relatively well in Week 1, the Bills were much more vulnerable against the pass. That should give Jared Goff opportunities to attack Buffalo’s secondary, particularly if the Lions use their opening script and quick passing game to protect the injured offensive line. Dan Campbell’s aggressive approach is another positive for the over. Detroit will go for it on fourth down, remain aggressive around midfield and create additional scoring opportunities. On the other side, Allen’s willingness to push the ball downfield creates explosive touchdowns, quick possessions and potential turnovers that can give Detroit favorable field position. Buffalo’s explosive passing attack has an excellent matchup against Detroit’s depleted secondary, while the Lions have enough offensive firepower to score against a Bills defense that remains the weakest part of its team. With our model projecting 61 total points, we have a clear edge at the current number. Give me over Lions vs. Bills Over 54.5.

Coach Dan Campbell was asked if he remembered the last time these two teams faced off back in 2024 (Bills won a 48-42 shootout). One thing stood out from his response:
“QB runs…those showed up quite a bit and we’ll be ready for those…the guy that’s under center for them poses a lot of issues to your defense. You have to check every box on your defense”
It sounds like DET will be focused on limiting Josh Allen’s rushing after he ran for 68 yards in the last matchup (DET was w/o Hutchinson).
Last season, DET was great at limiting mobile QBs. They did not allow a single 14+ yard scramble & they faced plenty of mobile QBs:
-Lamar Jackson (healthy) — Long of 13
-Caleb Williams x2 — Longs of 1 & 10
-Baker Mayfield — Long of 0
-Jalen Hurts — Long of 12
-Marcus Mariota — Long of 9
-Patrick Mahomes — Long of 11
-JJ McCarthy — Long of 9
Last week —> Tyler Shough — Long of 4
They’ve only allowed 2 QBs to go over their longest rush line dating back to last season — Dak (12) & Jameis (11).
BUF is also a -5.5-point home favorite going up against a shaky Lions secondary. This is a spot where they may be playing from ahead and the offense is very run heavy late in the game. DET also gives up a ton of deep throws (highest rate in the NFL since 2025) and if BUF connects on a few of those, it would take away play volume/potential yardage and decrease Allen’s chances of a long scramble.
Given the matchup, I think this line is too high.
