Cowboys vs Colts NFL Week 9 Preview
The Cowboys are coming off a disastrous loss at home against the Cardinals.
In typical Cowboys fashion, they blew a 24-10 lead in the fourth quarter, only to lose 33-30 in overtime. It was a game where they struggled to run the ball, as Javonte Williams was limited to only 56 yards on 24 carries.
With that said, they're in a good spot to get back on track, even though it's on the road. This is a matchup against a tanking team that is in the middle of a fire sale.
The Colts have lost four in a row entering Week 9, fresh off a 42-7 blowout loss against the Jaguars. After trading Quenton Nelson and DeForest Buckner, this team looks demoralized.
Head coach Shane Steichen is a virtual lock to be fired by the end of the season, perhaps even earlier. We're likely to see them trade both Jonathan Taylor and Josh Downs as well.
Even in a home game against a poorly coached Cowboys team, I prefer fading the Colts in this spot.
Cowboys vs Colts Prediction, Betting Analysis
I'm taking the Cowboys -5.5 over the Colts here. We've seen the Cowboys play a lot better on the road, including wins against the Texans and Eagles. They took care of business in a game they were favored to win in Philly, when they won handily 38-21. It wouldn't surprise me to see something similar against the Colts.
This is a great spot for the Cowboys offense to get rolling, as Indianapolis has allowed 42, 16, 26, and 34 points during this losing streak. In this stretch, the Colts are 23rd in Dropback EPA and 26th in Rush EPA. This may be a spot where the Cowboys can get their running game going.
I like getting below the key number of six here, so we'll ride with the Cowboys -5.5 against a tanking Colts team. This is a must-win game for Dallas as they try to keep pace with the Giants in the lowly NFC East.
Picks: Cowboys -5.5 (-115)
Cowboys vs Colts Player Props
I'm targeting the Cowboys' running game in player props, going with Javonte Williams Over 70.5 rushing yards.
As I mentioned above, the Colts are 26th in Rush EPA during their four-game losing streak. We just saw Bhayshul Tuten rush for 104 yards on only 16 carries against them.
Williams was inefficient against the Cardinals, but back in Week 7, he rushed for 155 yards against the Eagles, so it's not like he's been completely unproductive lately. While it's a high bar at 70.5, the Cowboys are projected to play with a lead as 5.5-point favorites, which would mean more rushing volume.
Williams has a combined 49 carries in his last two games, so he's been seeing a heavy workload. That also bodes well for this prop.
Picks: Javonte Williams Over 70.5 Rushing Yards (-114)
