Eagles vs Commanders Spread Prediction
It may be tempting to simply take the points with the underdog in this primetime NFC East matchup, but too many factors are working against the Eagles to back them on Sunday Night Football.
The Eagles offense has been decimated due to injuries at key skill positions. The 5.2 yards per play the Eagles mustered against the Cowboys on Monday Night Football may have been a ceiling performance when taking into account the early boost Saquon Barkley provided to begin the game.
Barkley returned to practice Friday, but it remains to be seen if his health can hold up for four quarters. Otherwise, recently signed practice squad running backs Jaydon Blue and Elijah Mitchell may be called upon to carry the offensive load.
Quarterback Tanner McKee will have to deal with the blitz-heavy scheme of the Commanders defense under Dan Quinn. It is a recipe for disaster considering how many plays Philly will have to run to sustain drives.
The Eagles generate just two explosive plays per game of 20 or more yards — the fewest the league. At some point during the long drives needed to move into scoring position, it is reasonable to expect the extra pass rushers heading in McKee's direction to force him into making a mistake that leads to a turnover or drive-ending sack.
In addition to the struggles offensively, the Philly defense has been one of the most disappointing units in the NFL this season. The Eagles rank 26th in pressure rate and they rarely disrupt the opposing quarterback in under 2.5 seconds — deemed quick pressures, their 8% rate ranks last in the NFL.
The lack of pass rush will allow Jayden Daniels to remain comfortable scanning the defense. Daniels will also be aided by running game that has the benefit of facing the 30th ranked rush defense in expected points added (EPA).
All signs point to the dam breaking at some point for this reeling Eagles team. I expect the Commanders to win comfortably coming off of their bye with extra rest and preparation.
Pick: Commanders -5.5 (-122)
Eagles vs Commanders Over/Under Pick
By Billy Ward
In some ways I feel for the NFL. They’ve clearly made an effort to improve the quality of primetime games in the last year or two (especially Thursdays), but in a sport as volatile and parity-filled as football, the best laid plans of just a few weeks ago often look foolish in hindsight.
Such is the case tonight, as a matchup that two months ago could have been a crucial NFC East showdown now features two teams with a combined 3-9-1 record.
Both the Eagles and Commanders have been wrecked with injuries, but especially the Eagles. They lost Jalen Hurts for the season to scary blood clots, are down a few wide receivers (DeVonta Smith and Dontayvion Wicks), and have apparently been playing Saquon Barkley through a myriad of moderately serious injuries.
The Commanders also have (arguably) their two best skill position players on IR, with “Bill” Croskey-Merrit and Terry McLaurin on the list. That makes it hard to see where points come from in this contest, especially with both defenses comparatively healthy.
Neither team has a great — or even good — defense, but they aren’t terrible, ranking 22nd and 23rd in DVOA.
The total has fallen all the way to 40.5 at most books, but it wouldn’t shock me if this game finished at half that mark. Give me the under, with the best line coming via BetRivers at -109.
That bet also functions as a solid hedge for the “Colts to score the fewest points on Sunday” bet I made in our Predictive Analytics Best Bets.
Pick: Under 40.5 (-109)
Makai Lemon Anytime Touchdown Pick
I gave out Makai Lemon for an anytime touchdown for Monday Night Football, and he came through for us with a 7/67/1 line.
I'm going back to the well for Sunday Night Football as Lemon is priced similarly despite DeVonta Smith and Dontayvion Wicks again not playing.
Lemon has been heavily involved over the last three weeks, averaging seven targets per game, and he should be in line for similar volume tonight.
The Eagles are six-point underdogs for this game so the game script will likely be in our favor as well.
Pick: Makai Lemon Anytime Touchdown (+330)
Tanner McKee Player Props
By Derek Carty
There is a value opportunity on McKee's rushing yards prop. THE BLITZ is projecting 9.26 rushing yards for him with a 71% chance that he exceeds 1.5 rushing yards.
If you can get the over at +114 or better, there is some great value here. This play is good down to at least -160.

Pick: Tanner McKee Over 1.5 Rushing Yards (+114)
Jayden Daniels Anytime Touchdown Pick
By Sam Farley
As Billy alluded to above, the Commanders will be without two of their top skill position players in Jacory Croskey-Merritt and Terry McLaurin tonight.
Rachaad White is set to be their RB1, but we saw throughout his time with the Buccaneers that he’s better as a pass-catching back than a pure running back. Backup Austin Ekeler is past his prime and not far removed from the Achilles injury that kept him out for a year.
That leads me to Jayden Daniels for a potential anytime touchdown. In four games, he’s scored two rushing touchdowns and is averaging 6.25 carries per game.
He’s dangerous when he scrambles and has six rushes in the red zone, tied for the most on the Commanders despite missing two games. His potential on the ground was highlighted against the Giants in October, when he rushed nine times for 109 yards and two touchdowns.
The Eagles are tied for the most rushing touchdowns allowed to quarterbacks, with three given up in seven games.
Pick: Jayden Daniels Anytime Touchdown Scorer (+230)
