The Philadelphia Eagles have been amazing to start the season. They rank fifth in overall offensive DVOA and ninth in overall defensive DVOA. Coming off a convincing victory over the Vikings, they now travel as 6.5-point favorites to face ex-Eagle Carson Wentz and the Commanders.
It can be assumed that a negative game script is in store for the Commanders based on the spread. While Antonio Gibson has taken the majority of carries, McKissic has been the more productive receiving back when his team is trailing. His target share doubled from 7.3% in a Week 1 victory to 15.9% in a Week 2 defeat compared to Gibson’s 19.5% to 9.1% target share.
The way the Eagles scheme their defense with Darius Slay and James Bradberry covering outside forces opponents to beat them inside and with quick passes. Previous opponent running backs have fared well in the backfield. We saw this in Week 1 with Deandre Swift going 3-31 on three targets and then in Week 2 with Dalvin Cook going 4-19 on six targets.
McKissic is a prolific pass-catcher and is still efficient at what he does. He leads all running backs with a 100% catch rate on at least eight targets and averages 7.6 yards per carry. He averages running at least 19 routes per game, which shows his involvement in the passing game. Pair that with the expected game environment, and I love the veteran's chances of going over his receiving prop on Sunday.
