These two teams are heading in opposite directions at the moment. Newcastle sit third in the table, having won six consecutive league outings, while Leeds sit 15th, having lost four of their last six.

Newcastle Surging Through the Ranks
Newcastle are one of the hottest teams in the EPL at the moment. They haven't lost a game in all competitions since the final day of August, with a record of nine wins and four draws.
During that 13-match stretch, they have accumulated an average of two goals a game, much of which has lately been thanks to the surging play of Miguel Almiron, who has scored five in his last six league matches.
They have also been equally strong defensively during the last couple of months. During their 13-match unbeaten run, they've conceded just five goals and have rattled off four consecutive clean sheets.
And while this matchup against Leeds could be viewed as a trap game, with Arsenal approaching on the other side of the new year, motivation should not be an issue for manager Eddie Howe's side.
The Magpies are in a position to earn their first Champions League spot since 2003. And if they can continue their incredible run of results, they could legitimately turn this season into a proper three-team title race.
Leeds United Are Getting Back Their Engine
Leeds' midseason struggles continued during the midweek when they dropped expected points to Manchester City in a 3-1 defeat. While results have not gone the way of Jesse Marsch's side over the last couple of months, the American manager hasn't tinkered with their identity and style of play: high work rate and high press.
Leeds lead the league in tackles won in the middle third of the pitch (343) and will see the return of USMNT international Tyler Adams, who missed the City match due to a red card suspension.
Adams is the engine of March's midfield, leading the team in interceptions + tackles with 68 (4th in EPL). His ability to break up passing lanes will be hugely beneficial against a Newcastle side that can get sloppy in transition, as the Magpies lead the league in high turnovers, according to theanalyst.com.
However, Leeds' press-heavy tactic has caused more harm than good as of late. If someone is to get beat 1v1, it leaves them exposed in the back, and opposing teams are punishing them for it, especially on the road. The Peacocks have given up 17 goals in seven away matches this season and have yet to record a clean sheet away from home.

Newcastle are surging on both sides of the ball at the moment. That heightens even more when they are at home, having just one loss in St. James Park in 2022.
Eddie Howe's side has shown they can find the back of the net — currently ranked third with 22 EPL goals — while Leeds have shown they are equally as good at giving up goals.
