Clubs coming off very different midweek results in European soccer go at it when mighty Paris Saint-Germain hosts Lyon in Sunday's Ligue 1 showdown.

The Parisians settled for a rather disappointing 1-1 road draw against Belgian outfit Club Brugge in Wednesday's Champions League opener. Both sides scored in the opening half, with Ander Herrara continuing his tear for the visitors, but neither team could find the game winner.

On the other side, Les Gones delivered another strong effort as they seem to get better with more games in a 2-0 victory over Scottish side Rangers in their Europa League debut.

The host is a close to a 3-1 moneyline favorite, with Lyon sitting at +750 odds to win outright. Let's take a look at these foes and see what could be in store.

Powerful PSG Still Unbeaten, but Not Unscathed

You would probably assume things were all hunky-dory for the global powerhouse, but that's simply not the case for the Parisians entering this important meeting.

Stars Neymar, Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappé featured in Wednesday's tie against Club Brugge, but were unable to really get anything generated going forward. I chalk that up to the simple fact the triumvirate had never started together, so it will take some time for them to gel even if we're talking about three of the best players in the world.

However, a repeat trio on the attack after Mbappé was forced to leave the Champions League match with a knock. Manager Mauricio Pochettino hasn't announced how long his talisman will be sidelined, but his absence will take away one part of the Parisians' blazing attack that hung four goals on Clermont Foot in last weekend's fixture.

When it comes to the advanced metrics, PSG sits on 9.0 expected goals and 4.3 xGA in league play. Those numbers generate a 4.7 expected-goals differential and +0.93 xGDiff per 90 minutes. Obviously, that's not too shabby for the leaders of the French top flight who have yet to lose a game.

Lyon Finding Stellar Form at Right Time

After starting their campaign winless with a loss and two draws, Les Gones (aka The Kids) have won three matches on the bounce and only conceded one goal in the process.

Following a wild 3-3 stalemate against Clermont Foot, Lyon defeated Nantes (1-0) and Strasbourg (3-1) before the impressive triumph against Rangers. Moussa Dembélé has been doing most of the damage for Les Gones, racking up a team-best four goals thus far. That has the French footballer tied in the early Golden Boot race with Mbappé and Nice standout  Amine Gouiri.

As for its statistical numbers, Lyon has accumulated a solid  9.7 xG and subpar 6.5 xGA through five games, resulting in +3.2 xGDiff and +0.65 xGDiff/90 minutes. Needless to say, the offense has been great in its 4-2-3-1 formation, but the defense must improve for this club to be a serious contender.

Betting Analysis & Picks

If there was ever a time for Lyon to potentially get the better of PSG, it would be now in my opinion. Les Gones have improved every outing of late, while the Parisians still haven't played their best despite going unbeaten through all competitions.

That said, I'm backing Lyon getting +1.5 on the spread line at -115 odds via DraftKings and making it my top selection. Les Gones looked great at Rangers, so I feel like the momentum created from that performance and their two previous league fixtures will carry over into this matchup.

Throw in the fact Lyon is unbeaten in 18 of it last 19 league road matches and I like my chances when it comes to this selection.

I'm also sprinkling a little on the Single Game Parlay of both teams to score and the total going over 2.5 goals at -120 odds. The Parisians' defense has been anything but spectacular against stronger opponents, so I'm going to have some action on this wager at this fair price.

Picks: Lyon +1.5 (-115) | Single Game Parlay — Both Teams To Score & Total Over 2.5 Goals (Yes at -120)
